Does anyone use this or is it junk the previous owner bought?

Purifier for vinyl sided pools.

I inherited it with the pool but unsure if there is any real need for it or if I can cut it out of my plumbing pathway.

I only ask because i have never seen anyone here or on r/pools mention having one or recommending something like this.
