I have a 24ft above ground & we fill to about 13500 gallons. Last year before we closed the CYA was very high. I use a Taylor K-2006 kit to test and the CYA reading wouldn't even make it to the 100 mark. We drained about 3/4 of the water before we closed last fall. So when we opened the other day we added that amount back in fresh water. I have only added one 1lb bag of calcium hypoclorite shock. After all that the CYA reading is still between 90 & 100. How is this possible after putting so much fresh water in? Do you think I am getting inaccurate test results? I don't know what to do next. Free chlorone is 5.6, pH is 8.0, calcium hardness 200 & alkalinity 120.

Have you added any chlorine since then? Thoose chlorine tablets have cya in them. I currently have cya level of 133, just planning to keep the free chlorine higher and not use any chlorine with cya in it anymore. Hopefully it will decrease overtime. I got my cya tested at Leslie pool supply for free. I just go their for free testing don’t buy anything rarely

Your odd of getting it right are similar.

90+ is sketchy to read. It might be 110, or 310. Sounds like it was closer to 310. We do a dilution test with half tap water and double the result when 90+.

It is what it is now, so go from there.

maybe, maybe not. Leslie’s (and most other stores, not picking on them specifically) are very bad at that specific test. Take you water to a second pool store and see how far off of 133 it might be. Or even take it back to the same store a few hours later and don’t be surprised if there’s a significant difference.
