Pentair Intellichlor IC-40
I installed this IC40 in May of 2018. It still works flawlessly. The problem I have with it is the top half of the housing is starting to separate at the forward end. At higher speeds it leaks right where the gray adhesive(?) is visible. I was afraid that it would totally separate one day when I wasn’t around and cause major chaos to my equipment! It was painful to shell out $1400 but you can’t put a price on safety. I plan on keeping it,just in case, and knowing that I need to keep the pump speed down low. I was just curious if anybody has seen this or if it’s possible to fix it.
One other thing, on the old IC40 I could run the pump as low as 600 rpm but the new one triggers the flow light if I try to go that low, odd.IMG_2447.jpeg

I fully agree that Murphy is a jerkwad. :ROFLMAO:

Here's the deconstruction thread so you can see what's going on inside.

I'm 99.6% sure its a hairline crack inside that would never cause a problem. So long as you don't leave the property for more than an hour. And sleeping is out too. But otherwise, it'll never fail. (y)

Thanks Newdude, that was interesting. It looks like that cover is epoxied in so if I took it off I would never get it back on without it leaking worse. I’ll just leave it alone and keep it in reserve.

Was it left out over winter? Wonder if it could be freeze damage separation...
I leave all my equipment out over the winter and never had a problem. Oklahoma winters aren’t too bad. I use a Cyclone blower so I’d be surprised if there was any water in it but it’s possible.

So. And i fully avow this. Pool equipment is designed and capable of being in the elements.

That said. I would never leave $1400 to $1800 worth of *anything* I could carry to freeze and/or sit in a snow drift. Electronics covered with a thin piece of plastic ? Pfffffft. I can't even. :ROFLMAO:
