Here are my results while opening the pool.

The pool company came to open it. They put some CalHypo in it (shock).

These are my results after testing with the Taylor kit.

I decided to treat the pool by myself (pool company was saying never put liquid chlorine) but I trust TFP most.

I was thinking of balancing pH before and putting a bit of CYA (no clue what the actual CYA is, water is a bit cloudy once the water is at the 30 mark on the taylor kit, it was 30 before closing).

I guess putting the pH down will take care of the TA.

So once pH and CYA are in line, I would slam the pool because it is cloudy.

The pH was 8 or over (can't know exactly) and the acid demand tests was 7 drops (so for my 5000 gallons Taylor says 1qt (1L) of 20 baume muriatic acid)

here are photos of the pool yesterday (before opening) and today

I have scrubed, vacuumed and cleaned the filters.

For now, only add about 10 ppm worth of stabilizer because it appears you may need to go into the SLAM Process. If you aren't sure about algae, do the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test, but based on the looks of the water, I think a SLAM is in order. If you do have to perform the SLAM, you'll lower the pH to about 7.2 first anyway. Post-SLAM, then go back and do the fine tunning of other levels.

Im slamming the pool, today is a lot more sunny than yesterday, and I it is 13:33 right now, I am losing about 3 FC in 45 minutes, is this normal?

Pool is not green anymore, still a bit cloudy, but 3ppm in 45 minutes sounds huge.

Do I just keep adding more?

CYA was at 30, should I retest CYA? Is it possible that CYA got lower by itself?

I am reporting that the SLAM works! (this is my first one).

I was able to hold chlorine during the night, and CC is lower than 0.5

Now for the clarity of water, how clear should it get before I stop slamming?

Also, when you test clarity, do you put your pump off? (I have a small pool and the turbulence in the water from the jets makes it less clear).

Do you think this water is clear enough?

I've been holding chlorine at night for 3 days and cc is less than 0.5

I'm wondering if it can go cleaner, any official test for visibility?

I have a tree next to the pool so I vacuum everyday for the stuff at the bottom for now

When was the last time you cleaned your filter. It is small. You can get clearer.
Clean your filter, note pressure. When pressure rises 25% over clean pressure clean again.

I clean it everyday, pressure doesn't rise up to 25 percent everyday, but I have a new one I might try that and keep this one as the "opening" filter.

Thanks!

Every morning when I wake up I see some stuff at the bottom of the pool.

A lot of it is from a tree that is near.

But I suspect also dead algae.

What do you guys think?1000007090.jpg1000007091.jpg

Let it go, the crud the filter traps acts as the new filter and traps finer crud. A dirty filter works better to the moment it reduces flow.

This is the sand filters cross to bear, that it takes longer to get to the same point, but IMO all 3 filters eventually filter to your yards ability, not the filter itself.

I think that every spring slam has some degree of crossover and its impossible to tell if its 50/50 or 90/10.
Also found more cracks in the pool.

Getting very stressed because company closed down (was opened for 40 years so I trusted them).
There's nothing the company did to make gel coat cracks, especially deep ones.

Thanks for the reply, I will monitor the gel coat cracks carefully, maybe they were there since install, can't seem them when the jets are running.

Thanks for the info on algae, I am still slamming after 1 week and it's incredible how much clearer the water is after 1 week, the method really works.
