How much chlorine to store

I do not have a SWG and use chlorine year round and my local pool store(Pinch A Penny) sells fresh chlorine 10% and i buy 5 gallons at a time@ $18.50 a bargain these days.

I get mine from my local Rural King for $16.99 a case! I have six cases currently as I go through 1gal per week during the height of summer. CDS brand is 10% chlorine but has served me well.

You don’t have any details about your pool listed in your signature so it’s somewhat hard to make an educated suggestion.

A clean and clear swimming pool following TFP recommended levels can use anywhere from 3-5ppm FC PER DAY. More if the weather is very hot and dry. So you can use your pool’s volume and poolmath to calculate what that chlorine usage is for different chlorine sources.

Always check date codes on liquid chlorine as sodium hypochlorite degrades with time and heat. Anything older than 6 months is probably half of its listed concentration. Liquid chlorine should be stored in a well ventilated and cool space for maximum shelf life. Acid should never be stored with LC and acid should be stored in a vented space away from anything metallic.

How much chlorine in gallons do most folks use?
Have you considered a SWCG? It's by far the cheapest, easiest, and most convenient way to chlorinate. You would no longer have to find, haul, store, or dose LC. My SWCG will generate the equivalent of ~1,000 gallons of LC during its service life.

Does anyone buy acid from Walmart? If so what do you buy
Get MA at Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, etc.. Get the full strength 31.45%.

How much does a case hold? Unfortunately I don’t have anything like that near me. Does anyone buy acid from Walmart? If so what do you buy
A case holds four 1gal jugs. I got into the habit last year of measuring out 20 ounces of Chlorine and pouring it in pool every morning and again in the evening during peak season to maintain my 6-8ppm FC. The 2/day doses were for full sun days when pool was being used all day otherwise once per day.

I must be odd because I enjoy my Saturday morning ritual of going to Rural King and getting a case of Chlorine. :)

I have a 30,000 pool, no salt. I’m in California and here Home Depot only carries the 14.5% acid and it’s expensive at $16 for 2 gallons. Wondering what monthly expense will be if pay $5.67 per gallon for the Walmart chlorine. What can happen if you store acid and chlorine together? I have an outdoor shed and I keep all the pool stuff there

1 gal of 10% liquid chlorine will raise the FC by 3.3ppm for a 30,000 gal pool. In summer of CA you could need 3ppm (or more) of FC a day - so you are looking at using a gallon a day. Buy enough to get you through a week and then have an auto reorder.

A 60k SWCG would be perfect for you. What other equipment do you have? Fill out your signature when you have a minute.

In some parts of the country, HD only sells the half strength product (at full price). Try Ace Hardware or Lowes.

A lot. In the middle of summer, expect to consume ~1 gallon/day.

What can happen if you store acid and chlorine together?
Don't. Keep LC and MA apart from each other.

At 1 gallon a day it would cost me $140 per month in just chlorine. That sounds really high. When I had a pool boy he would charge me $150 a month which is basically how much it looks like I would need to spend on chemicals now. Although he would put in 1 gallon when he came and give me another 1 gallon in the middle of the week. So that is 8 gallons a month only during the summer. My chlorine usually was around 4ppm whenever I took it to Leslie to check

By the way in the winter when it’s cold and no is using the pool do I still need to keep the chlorine at the right level?

I have a 1.5hp pentair superflo pump and 60 DE pentair filter

Any particular salt water generator you recommend I get? So with that I don’t need to ever add chlorine to the pool? How much does the salt cost and how often do I need to add it? How difficult is the install

With Pentair automation : IC60

Without Pentair automation : curcupool RJ60+

How much does the salt cost
Usually somebody has $9 bags. This year it was lowes water softer salt for me. Last year was Home Depot 'pool salt' The most I've spent in 13 years was $13 in a pinch.

how often do I need to add it?
2 to 5 bags in the spring to replenish rain dilution over the winter, (probably 2 or less for you in sunny CA). It varies by year of course

Then another 40lb bag for about every foot of rain, which will be rarely for you. Lol.

How difficult is the install
Basic PVC plumbing skills (tons of YouTube videos showing how easy it is)

Moderate but not expert electric skills.
