New Pentair Intelliflo3 VSF - confusing label on motor !?

Dave,

Obviously, the best thing to do is get it swapped out..

My idea on the labels was, just in case the seller refused to make it right.. You would have more confidence in what you actually have..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks Jim - agreed. I am giving the retailer the benefit of the doubt here that this isn't something shady on their end... and it's really not as simple as a labeling scam, unless it's a very poorly thought out one. The dimensions (OAL, OAH, inlet height) ALL match the 3.0HP spec, so really it's either the motor label is wrong, or someone actually swapped out the motor from a 1.5HP model (if that's possible).

The pump is the 3 HP model.

As you can see, the 3 HP model has a taller section from the body to the lid.

The lid goes above the union and the unions are the bigger unions.

Maybe a mistake at Pentair or maybe someone switched the motors.

The wet end looks to be a 3 HP model.

I don’t see how you can say which motor it really is.

Thanks James - yes, it seems you're correct. The guy at PoolCleaningParts sent me a photo of the label on the motor itself (inside the housing) and had me do the same... sure enough, the motor itself is labeled as Pentair 356165 (their part number for 3.0HP replacement motor)... here's a photo of that label.

SO... it seems that the external label on the housing is incorrect. The remaining question for me is whether I care about that (ie. is there anything else that Pentair could have done wrong in assembly beyond just the sticker...

356165S is correct.

Did you post a picture?

Register the pump with Pentair and then open a warranty ticket and ask Pentair to help you determine for sure what motor you have.

How did they get a picture of the label if they never opened the box?

How do you know which label on the pump is correct?

I would send it back. I would not want to spend $2,000 on something questionable.

I've decided to keep this pump and take it up with Pentair later to get the right label for the outside shroud. The folks at PoolCleaningParts sent a photo of a 1.5HP motor for comparison and it is clearly smaller in diameter than this motor, so I'm satisfied that I have the right components here.

Thanks all for the input and guidance - I really appreciate it!
