Yes. Once your neutralize the acid. Also your FC/CC reading will not be correct for many months.

So all the work and expense to get rid of the copper stains would all be for nothing unless you take the risk of draining the pool and popping the shell out of the ground?

No. You can attempt to sequester it. That requires constant addition of a chemical. One slip and the stain is back.

Yes, but it seems a bit over my pay grade and sound quite frightening if you make any kind of slip up.

Where are you in Florida? What is in your surroundings? Do you have nearby lakes, rivers, ocean etc? If you dig a hole down several feet does it fill with water?

We are in Southwest Florida. We have a waterway about two streets over. When they dug out for our pool construction 4 years ago, they did it in March which is still dry season here and they did not hit water.

So I assume Naples area. I would suggest you either do an exchange or a partial drain, refill, and another partial drain and refill. That should remove the bulk of the sulfamic acid and copper.

Yes....just north of Fort Myers.
Let me clarify---there was no water when they initially dug the hole for the pool but water did eventually creep into the hole and they had to pump it out.

That's why I would not drain 100%. There is always risk. The least risky is the Exchange. If your water chemistry and temperatures are conducive it can be pretty efficient.

Yes. You will not be able to manage the FC levels for a long time.
