I have brown staining mostly on the steps. I also have a turquoise staining. I tried the Jacks Magic Identifier kit and the #2 seemed to help. I’m wondering if it’s worth doing this process as it’s very expensive versus just acid washing or just ignoring. I was doing a partial drain when I took the pics in order to lowwer CYA. Any thoughts?IMG_2255.jpeg

Turquoise is copper staining.

What have you been using to chlorinate your pool?

You use any algaecides?

You can ignore it if the stains don't bother you.

We don't recommend acid washing pools, especially old plaster. It can reduce the life of your plaster or destroy it if not done correctly.

I have been using the Costco HTH tabs until about a month ago. I switch to liquid chlorine as I was tired of dealing with the high CYA. I also had a pool RX which apparently uses some copper. I stop using this also. So now I’m considering using the Jacks Magic #2 but it very expensive and I’ll probably have to drain after. The other option is ignoring it. It’s a 6 year old pool. I was thinking about switching to salt water in the spring.

I would bet that you also used Clorox Blue Trichlor tablets from Costco that contained copper.

Any chemicals that have Blue in the name contain copper. Blue is a code word for copper.

Yes you need to drain the pool after the sulfamic acid treatment. The sulfamic acid messes up FC testing in the water for months.

No it was the brand HTH.
