New saltwater pool start up

^^^Is that your doubled number? When you diluted, what CYA did you read on the tube?
Sorry I did not read about the #8 until now. I will get that done and let you know here shortly. Should I do it that way all the time instead of filling with pool water to 7 and the reagent to 14?

I'm not sure how to do the diluted test.
  1. If your CYA level is 90 or higher, repeat the test adjusting the procedure as follows:
    1. Fill the mixing bottle to the lower mark with pool water.
    2. Continue filling the mixing bottle to the upper mark with tap water.
    3. Shake briefly to mix.
    4. Pour off half of the contents of the mixing bottle, so it is again filled to the lower mark.
    5. Continue the test normally from step 2, but multiply the final result by two.

Will get this test done. Thanks!

Done! CYA calculations are still reading 100

If the dot disappeared at 50, round up to 60. Your CYA is 120. (We round up because we don't know where between 60 and 50 the dot disappeared.)

I would maintain your FC between 9-15 while your CYA is this high.

CYA will come down over time. 70-80 is a good target CYA for you.

When your CYA was 60, why did you add another 8lbs? (adding the 8lbs would have raised it to 120...which makes sense given your test result).

To be honest, I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing. Would have never imagined that would have jumped from 60-100 so fast!

You are using pool math. Any time you make an addition check what the addition will do. Use "effects of adding" function.

Try it now. Enter "DRY STABILIZER" and 8lbs...it will show you that 8lb will raise your CYA by 61 in your pool.

Your CYA was 60. You added 61...and got 120(1).

Gotcha!

I added an entire gallon of muriatic acid yesterday and pH dropped from 8 to 7. Checked today (24 hours later) and my pH is back at 8. I can not keep adding acid every day. The only thing that I could think of that is keeping my pH elevated is that our pump runs 24/7.

High TA, low pH and aeration cause pH rise. Pump running in an AGP should not cause pH rise.

Your TA is 140...somewhat high. Continue to drop your pH, but I would only lower to 7.2. When it rises to 8, lower again. When you add muriatic acid, you lower TA. pH rises on its own without raising TA.

When TA reaches 60-80, STOP lowering pH to 7.2 and just manage it between 7.8 and 8.0...it should be more stable.

I'm sorry, what's an AGP?
