Hello! So, my Hayward ColorLogic light floated out of the niche the other day. Surrounding and built into the light is an outer ring of clear plastic. The outer ring has a hole through which a screw passes to screw the light into the nitch. Covering all this is a decorative ring placed after the light is secured to the niche.

PROBLEM: the clear plastic ring has broken (not sure how) exactly where the screw passes through. A busted screw hole means this cannot be screwed to the niche. I don’t think this a part sold separately, but is instead integrated into the $1000 light. 😳

GOOD NEWS. I retrieved the broken pieces of plastic and could piece it back together.

QUESTION: is there a waterproof, made for swimming pools kind of glue I could use for this repair? Could I maybe use kitchen/bathroom caulking to hold the pieces together?

Ideas please. I really don’t want to buy a whole new light if I can avoid it.

... is amazing stuff. It hardens to hard plastic.

I would put it on the back of the ring and set the broken pieces in. Even cover the hole and then drill a new hole in the Plast-aid. The Plast-aid is white and not clear but I don't think it will affect the light.

@1poolman1 what do you think?

I would highly recommend Plast-aid. It bonds extremely well with PVC, and it's unbelievably strong.

It's one of the few products that actually lives up to its claims. Watch to get started:

The "bend a quarter" video is short, but shows the strength of the product:

I’ll give this a try! Thank you :)

UPDATE: I cannot remove the decorative trim ring in order to access the plastic that needs to be repaired. Removing this trim piece sounds simple enough. The manufacturer says all I need to do is gently insert a screwdriver from the front in one of 4 slots and turn the trim ring counter clockwise. Gee...if only the trim piece wasn't held on in no less than 4 locations with a rigid piece of plastic with a hook on the end preventing any turning of any kind. I tried jamming shims between the trim and the rigid plastic "hooks" blocking my ability to turn the trim, but there is simply no turning the trim ring. Since I cannot remove the ring, I cannot attempt the plastic repair. And let's face it; the odds of this plastic repair working well enough to receive a mounting screw and have the trim piece reapplied without re-breaking the formerly shattered plastic is...pretty low.

Thanks, original pool builder, for breaking this light, patching it with super glue, installing it without telling us it was broken and moving on so that in 2 years' time our $1100 pool light would gently float to the surface with no way to repair it.

I am getting a bit worn out fixing all the problems with this pool. This industry needs to take some lessons in ethics and morals. Parts break upon installation. Build in some padding to your estimate to cover that cost. OR AT A BARE MINIMUM DON'T BE A PANSY AND NOT TELL YOUR CUSTOMER IT IS BROKEN. What a joke this whole pool building experience has been. This broken light is just the final straw. (I am sure as I type this, some pipe is rupturing or the shotcreete is crumbling, because that's how this whole pool build has been).

Off to price $1100 light replacements. Yay.
