I am going to be gone the next 3 weeks and with the leaves falling and my neighbor lady that looks after the pool being gone I went ahead and put the winter cover on. How many hours a day should I go ahead and continue to run the pump? When I get back hopefully the water temp will be low enough that I can go ahead and close and winterize the pool. For now though to keep the water clean I put the cover on.

FC/CC 8/8
TA 70
PH 7.6

Any particular time of day the pump should run?

Whats your cya?
Run whenever you like (I usually just do a couple hours/day and be sure to calculate your swcg output so you don’t get excessively high fc. You will lose very little fc with the cover on.
What kind of cover? Be sure to make provisions for precipitation on the cover displacing pool water if its a solid cover.

I usually don’t mind my fc creeping up some because its less liquid chlorine for me to add later when I fully close but I am there to check it.
without being there to monitor it for 3 weeks it may get a bit high on you. If at all possible try to do a test run & some data before you go to get an idea for what your settings need to be.

UV demand, which was already dropping, will lower even more with the cover on. You might only see 0.5 loss per day and it will continue to drop a little everyday.

Do you have a day or two to test with no SWG to see the daily loss while covered? If not, I'd set the swg to make 1ppm a day. If you lose any at all, you won't be over slam when you return. If you don't lose any, you'll be at slam and still ok.

CYA 60. SWCG has been at 55 and kept my chlorine right at 6.0 - 6.5. I have a solid cover with a pump and hose to remove any water that accumulates on the cover.

Unfortunately I do not have time. I should have put the cover on sooner but the weather was nice so we were still swimming! Then it started raining and today I said I have to get this cover on because I am leaving tomorrow! So I put the cover on in between rain showers today.

ok will pool math tell me the percentage I need to run the SWCG at to generate 1 PPM per day?

Yes. Use effects of adding in the upper left menu. Add your gallons, select SWG, then your cell, then mess with % and hours.
