I need to repair a leak at the water inlet to my Pentair filter. Upon looking at it, I noticed that it was installed using a screw-in fitting that intalls inside of the filter inlet which I assume results in the opening being slightly smaller than 1-1/2” diameter. Would it be foolish to replace this fitting with a proper slip union (i.e. one from the Pentair 150119 Union Kit) so that I will not be reducing the diameter of the inlet. This would also make it easier to disconnect and/tighten the connection in the future if needed.
My main concern is that the slightly expanded inlet would create too much pressure since the outlet line also uses this same type of screw-in fitting but (which then immediately connects to a 2” expander which runs 2” pvc to the heater). I have attached a picture of the inlet connection.
