Betta SE Plus

Yep, the pine needles are their nemesis.
I wonder if they upgraded and put in a sensor to measure the propeller spin resistance because the unit stops when the pine needles accumulate then restarts as soon as I remove them and do a reset (off/on). The left prop seems to wrap more than the right.

Also keep an eye out on the paddle end shafts. Pine straw likes to get wrapped around those too.

Still loving my Betta and the new one that just arrived to keep it company!

Orion7319 - Good luck with Debby. Looks like you might get a direct hit now!

Thanks! Yeah we got lots of rain. Tons of debris in the pool. Had to help the Betas out a bit with some manual skimming. The Aiper S1 took 4 runs to clean the bottom. The SE plus likes to take lots of breaks for some reason. It just stops a few times and hour with the green lights on solid then after a minute or two starts up again. Not sure what it’s doing.

For those of you that have 2 bettas. Does anyone else notice that the SE is picking up more than the SE Plus? Or am I imagining things.
My betta 3 won’t pick up as much as the SE plus because its batteries always dies in the middle of the night. Otherwise they seem to pick up the same amount of stuff. Don’t have an SE for your comparison.

Quick update. I had mine out of the pool for a week while I added some salt and other chemicals but now that some leaves are falling I put it back in on Friday. Sunday morning I noticed it was stuck at the skimmer opening but thought maybe it was because the frog saver thing was close to the skimmer and it didn't know how to reverse itself with the frog saver in the way. I moved the frog saver further away from the skimmer and then this morning when I left for work it was stuck in the skimmer opening again. I just looked via one of my cameras and it's still stuck in the same place 3+ hours later. Not sure why this is just now happening. I'm still within my 30-day return period so now I'm considering sending it back (of course I had just purchased the 3-year warranty for $60). I have no interest in jamming foam or whatever into the skimmer openings to keep this thing unstuck. Does it have rear-facing sensors? If so, could it be detecting the frog saver still? Here is a picture from one of my cameras. It's kind of blocked from view due to the umbrella.

I'm considering pulling the trigger on a SE Plus but I have some questions.
  1. Are there any concerns with damaging a vinyl liner?
  2. Does it get stuck in the water line skimmers? There is a buying option that includes a short section of "Anti-Stuck Foam Noodle".

Mine has not yet gotten stuck on the skimmer, but I have previously read that water level may be a factor. Is your water level lower than normal?

You could turn down your skimmer and direct more suction to the bottom drains. With the SE working, you really do not need your skimmer. This is basically taking the place of your skimmer.

I slightly lowered the pump speed from 1,600 to 1,500 RPM but we are now going on 7+ hours and it's stuck in the same place. I did email Betta and it turns out the extended warranty IS refundable which was surprising. Their customer service is very responsive to requests which is great. I'm just not seeing a real benefit yet if I have to babysit this thing or adjust the flow of my skimmer just to keep it from getting stuck. It's also getting pretty banged up on the front from hitting the corners where the bump out is for my steps.

Skimmer wizard works to keep the bettabot out of the skimmer. Plus after windy storms and before Betta can get around to capture all the debris, the wizard keeps tons of large magnolia leaves, pine straw, sticks, etc. from clogging the skimmer which in turn slows down the polaris! Keeping all of the robots happy is a full time job! But the pool looks crystal clear and better than it did before they moved in.

When I got home yesterday I pushed it away from the skimmer and removed the frog saver just in case that was confusing it. An hour later it was stuck again so my wife got it unstuck. Overnight the pump turned off per our schedule and it was able to free itself for a while and then it managed to get stuck in the skimmer again with the pump off! What I don't understand is why it didn't get stuck a single time the first week we had it. My only theory is that it was fully charged via the wall charger and perhaps it just had more power at that charge level versus the charge it gets from solar charging. It's pretty disappointing since it did such a great job the first week and now it seems that it can't get out of its own way. Here is how it was stuck for 10+ hours when I got home yesterday:

They get stuck in the skimmer when the water level is pretty much optimal for the skimmer to function properly and when the pump speeds are too high. If you raise your water level by just a bit, it won’t get stuck. I don’t run my skimmer at all now because I have 2 Bettas and because I get so much debris sometimes in the skimmer my pump will suck air. Basically the betas for me are so I can bypass the skimmer all together so I can quit worrying about the pool pump getting burned up. Most people seem to want to use these to augment their skimmers rather then replacing them all together which works, you just have to pay attention to your water levels.

Unfortunately I don't have the option to raise the water level as it's currently close to its maximum due to the overflow drain. I can see why they are selling these pre-packaged now on Amazon with the foam noodle piece to place in the skimmer opening. That would probably solve the issue I'm having. I do still think it's a great product overall for the price. What is confusing to me is why it worked great the first week (never got stuck once) and now we can't get it to run more than an hour or two without it getting stuck in the skimmer.

This is a link to the Aiper Surfer Review if anyone is comparing skimmer robots

Well I am finally going to have to make a warranty claim. My little guy is only working intermittently now. Add on top of that the fact that the motor will not fully turn off when I move the switch over, I think he has given up the ghost. Making a warranty claim currently on their site. Is there anything special I need to do? I did purchase the extended 3 year warranty through Betta.

I’ve had toads hitchhiking the betTa. Orion up the highway had a rattlesnake. Today the paddle wheel wasn’t freely turning. Expecting to see pine straw wrapped around the shaft I found this snake very much dead. Sorry snake.
