Aqua salt

Looking for the best, purest salt. Looks like Aqua salt is 99%. Any suggestions on the purest salt to add?

Many of us use Diamond Crystal Pool Salt or Softener Salt from Home Depot (claimed 99.3%/99.6% pure). Stay away from Clorox brand due to reports of iron. Haven't seen any info on Aqua Salt.

My experience with Aqua Salt wasn’t good. It was very dirty (lots of grey scum floated to the surface). Also, no one at Aqua Salt could tell me what was being added as a “Stain Fighter” (as mentioned on the bag). I don’t like adding mystery ingredients to our pool.

I’ve not had any issues with Diamond Crystal Solar Naturals water softener salt. Their “pool salt” was really dirty/grey last time I bought it, so I stopped using it.

FWIW, that's what I use, too. Also with no issues.

I only installed my SWG a month ago, so not a lot of experience with it in the pool, but I've been using it for years in my water softener and it's always poured out of the bag looking clean and consistent.

I started buying the aquasalt since some iron staining developed after use of some dirty mortons professional.
The local place here doesn’t gouge too much for it.
Water softener salt is not a commonly available item in my area.
I also use the splash ready diamond crystals when I can find it .
Both have dissolved well and seemed clean.
The Regular Morton’s pool salt is no where to be found for the past couple years here.
Definitely avoid Clorox salt.

That is the softener salt I was referring to, but in my area, the Diamond Crystal Splash Ready Pool Salt is cheaper. Both work equally as well for me. Thank you for clarifying PS.

No worries, wanted best info for the member. The Splash Ready availability is hit or miss in my area, the solar crystals is always in stock. I've used both and I agree...the Diamond Crystal brand has not let our members down, save 1, that had some rocks, but continued use and didn't have the problem again.

Thank you all for response. I did purchase the Aqua salt because it gets way better reviews than the diamond crystals. We are going to be putting in about 10 bags upon filling of the pool so I guess if this stains it will be a lesson learned. Seems like water softener salt would take FOREVER to dissolve

I have been using Aquasalt for the last few years with no problems. I use about 15 bags a year.

Water softener salt does not take forever to dissolve and works the same except some leave residual in pool from the mining process that may leave you with a hand full of a pebble like substance.

The one we use in our water softener is big chunks so I guess that's what makes me think it would take forever.

Can you confirm your pool volume of 10,000 gallons? Are those 40 lb bags?

I hear a lot of bad things about the Clorox. So you have used the Aqua salt in the past with no problems? I am just needing a really good salt since this will be a first time start up and it will require a lot at once.

They are 40lb bags. Our pool volume up on my calculations will be 8,876 gallons. I purchased a few bags extra to have on hand as we live 80 miles from nearest town and it isn't convenient to just run to the store and by salt or anything else for that matter

That makes more sense. Your previous post indicated you'd be putting in 10 bags. That would be way too much. Make sure you use pool math to calculate the proper amount. Best wishes!

Sorry for the confusion. I will have to go play with pool math app that I downloaded to figure the exact amount. We ordered our pool so it should arrive this week. Thank you so much for your help!
