I see the log now, and because I tried more than once it's in there a couple times. I'll delete them later. Just an FYI. Any comments or suggestions out there?
I'll start a new thread after this.I reviewed your last few posts and there seemed to be a common theme - inconsistency. If your CYA test is correct (50), we know the appropriate SLAM FC level is "20", but its not been there consistently. This will most certainly cause the SLAM to drag on and on.
This thread is getting quite long, so it's difficult to go back and review everything from Post #1, so I will recap a few things and hope it helps you get through this:
- Be sure of that CYA. If it's 50, that's fine, but make sure it's not actually higher or closer to 60.
- Maintain that proper FC level (20)
- There should be nothing in the pool except for perhaps lights right? You have a FG pool, so I assume the steps are molded into the shell shape? Your lights are the smaller 3.5" LED perhaps? Of do you have a large size light of some type?
- Liquid chlorine is the primary chemical. Don't bother with any other products. Chlorine is always an effective sanitizer and will neutralize algae as long as the proper (elevated) FC level is maintained.
- When was the last time (if ever) you performed an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test?
Maybe share a pic or two of the water?
Thanks for your comment about not staring at the dot. I had to stare at it almost every test I've done, it seemed like it would never go away. All those tests were before slam. I'll make sure to just glance at it this time. Getting ready to test so I'll report soonDon't start a new thread - keep everything here.
Retest CYA and report it here.
If the reading falls between the lines, round up to the next larger number (51-59 is reported as 60).
Don't stare to see the dot, just glance.
Be consistent.
SLAM Process FC level for CYA 30 is 12.FC 14.5
CYA 30
Added 84 oz liquid chlorine as directed. Curious to hear your thoughts.
SLAM Process FC level for CYA 30 is 12.
If your FC was 14.5 (2.5 above SLAM level), why dis you add an additional 84 oz?
There is a thread somewhere when I first started slam that told me my slam level for FC was supposed to be 20. I would have not just chosen that number because I don't know anything about it. So that's what I've been going by. I'll see if I can find the thread and forward it to youSLAM Process FC level for CYA 30 is 12.

No worries - we all miss things.
Use the SLAM level based on your CYA level. Your latest CYA result was 50, so SLAM FC is 20.
Add no other chemicals but liquid chlorine to maintain SLAM level FC.
Don't test anything but FC until your pool is clear - then do the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to see if you pass.
This is what I was talking about. So my initial FC was supposed to be 20 according to the chart and what I was told. And then I was told only to test FC and not just anything else. So I'm a little confused now should I have been testing c y a all along and adjusting the FC to ever match the cya result? I haven't been doing that- because like I said I thought I was only to test the FC and get it to the slam level which I thought it was 20. Maybe you can clarify for me?There is a thread somewhere when I first started slam that told me my slam level for FC was supposed to be 20. I took a look at the test again, the FC test. And I have been doing it all wrong. I completely misunderstood what I was supposed to do. So I was using the initial free chlorine Target for every test instead of letting it tell maybe appropriate amount for the cya level. I think I understand it now. I guess we'll just start the whole process again after we get the overnight test results and maybe I'll do it right this timeTonight's levels are:
FC 17
CC 1
will update you in the morning
Just to make sure I don't screw something up, pool math is telling me that my slam FC level should be 12 so obviously don't add chlorine at this point. Is that correct?I took a look at the test again, the FC test. And I have been doing it all wrong. I completely misunderstood what I was supposed to do. That was for when you stated your CYA was 50. SLAM Process FC is 20 for CYA of 50.There is a thread somewhere when I first started slam that told me my slam level for FC was supposed to be 20. Hello. At 4:00 a.m. this morning TC was 15. CYA 30.That was for when you stated your CYA was 50. SLAM Process FC is 20 for CYA of 50.
In post #186 you stated your CYA is now 30. SLAM Process FC is 12 for CYA of 30.
Questions about levels, why I am getting skewed results, and quick thoughts, advice while I wait to receive one of your test kits

So, what IS your ACTUAL CYA right now - 50 or 30?
Did your testing method change between the CYA 50 test and the CYA 30 test?
If your CYA is 30, SLAM Process FC is 12.
Also, since I have discovered by mistake and I am now looking at the test correctly, it does appear that my target FC should be 12 so I don't believe there's any action for me to take at this point. Please correct me if I am mistaken.Hello. At 4:00 a.m. this morning TC was 15. CYA 30.
And to answer the question about whether or not I was performing the tests exactly the same way each time the answer is yes, I'm extremely careful about that.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks.
