Nothing will have the power of your pool pump, but using a cordless vac saves you from wrangling the hose and needing to backwash. With the spring crud gone, your backwash intervals should get much longer, so maybe that's less of an issue now.

I still recommend a surface skimmer. I also have started using skimmer basket socks. I’m curious how much less I’ll have to clean the cartridge filters but believe it will be very significant.

I have had the solar cover on for 2 days straight in 100 degree weather while i worked. After adding 12 ox of bleach yesterday the FC is 10 and my CYA seems a bit higher. It is now 50. And my TA is holding at 80. I also tested for free chloramines and that was literally nothing. It took 2 drops to clarify an almost non noticeable pinkish shade. So i guess that is good also. So tonight i will not add any bleach. Any suggestions? I talked this site up to 2 people i met. I told one guy to mention my user name! Lets see if he used this site and mentions me? Thanks all

Hey guys. I am really giving some hsrd thoughts on getting a gas heater again. As mentioned we has one a long time ago and after it died twice because of a poorly balanced pool we decided to cut our losses. Now i have 2 grandchildren and it would be nice to have a nice warm pool. We have a gas line and it is underground put in years ago. The plumber just capped off the line. We can easily have it opened again but i would like to purchase a decent and reliable heater this time around. Someone earlier mentioned i would not have to overuse it. Just put it on a few hours before use and then turn it off. Once the pool would be heated i could turn off the gas. So where do i start. I can read a million articles and have salespeople talk to me but i would like to hear from u people more than anything. I think it would make our pool experience so much more enjoyable if we do this right this time around. Thanks for listening

Let's call you @1poolman1 @ajw22 @wireform to see if they have any mid sized gas heaters they like.

Guys the pool is 11k gallons semi inground and the heater will be used to take the edge off during the regular season. I'd prefer a heat pump here but Monte would need the electric upgraded and it would add thousands to the install.

I think you'd need to do the gas delivery math before you decide which heater you want. It's dependent on distance from meter, size of pipe and how many 90° elbows up the the capped point, that will determine how much gas available for the heater.

Too much for me to comprehend. As mentioned the gas line is already installed. Just need to uncap the gas line by the pool and hook up again. Just really need a brand and reliable unit. Who should i call besides my plumber. A reputable pool store??

I'd call the HVAC people. Most of them should be plenty fluent in gas heaters.

Another weird question . It has been really hot the last couple of days. Like 95. I seem to be adding water every night to the pool. I usually have the water up to the 2nd screw of the skimmer inlet. Lately it seems to drop about 1” every night. Is there a way to check for a leak and if there is one who should i call for that? Is this an easy chore for a person who knows how to fix this?? Just FYI—-the liner has been really good to us. I would say it is about 10-12 years old at least. Our first liner did not last long but this one has been great! Any ideas ok my plight here ? Thank u. Or should i just keep an eye on it and watch the water level. Going to stay in the 90s thru next week. Climate change!!!!

It was hot and dry recently. The cooler nights are prime for more evaporation. Keep an eye on it but it's likely fine.

So any company that does heating/ air conditioning and not necessarily a pool store??
HVAC folks and/or propane companies with service departments are the go to for repairs here. Then they install many when the ancient heaters are shot.

We had an HVAC company do our ductless a/c in our home. Should i ask them?
If you have a relationship already then it's a great place to start. Hopefully folks have some recommendations in the meantime, or have thoughts about the couple they recommend.

You need a good pool company. In my area at least, HVAC people know vey little about pool equipment. You really want the largest capacity (in BTU rating) heater that your gas line will support. The difference in cost between a 200K and 400K is only about $500. The time it takes to heat is always shorter with the larger heater. After listening to two customers who wanted to spend a bit less and get a smaller heater, giving in (the customer is NOT always right), then hearing the complaints, I refused to ever do it again.
