Hello Everyone,
I have a 10k gallon saltwater plaster pool which is green!! Here are my test kit numbers:
FC 10 drops x .2= 2 parts per million free chlorine

CC 22 drops x .2= 4.4 parts per million combined chlorine

CYA = 70

PH = 7.2

TA= 13 drops x 10 =130

Calcium Hardness/ calcium Carbonate= 60 drops x 10 = 600
I purchased 9 gallons of pool essentials chlorination liquid. I need to know how much to use and the steps to get my pool back to blue. Any help will be much appreciated.

It's time to start the SLAM Process! Your pH is already in a perfect place, so you simply need to increase the FC to "28".

Until you pass all 3 SLAM criteria, focus on the FC testing the most. No need to test anything else except perhaps the CC once in a while You'll see a pattern of how often you should add chlorine to try and maintain that ideal FC level of 28. Work & life will take you away from the pool, but do your best. No need to go over 28. Follow the SLAM Process page carefully. It works, but it takes some time. The more vigilant you are with the notes on that page the better.

Once the water is crystal clear, then you can start thinking about the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test, but that will come later.

Hey neighbor, good luck and good job getting the Pool Essentials chlorine. You can also try Pinch a Penny as they have 2.5 gallon refillable jugs. I've never done the math but suspect they are about the same $ but wanted to make sure you knew we had lots of good options for liquid chlorine in our area.

I have this electric chlorine generator. It was set to off. When I tried to set it to super chlorinate, the indicator lit up the no flow indicator. Does that mean I need to have it serviced? I was thinking I could use this along with the liquid chlorine to make it clear faster.

Was the pump running when you powered on the SWCG?
It will not be of use for the SLAM. But it is much better at maintaining your proper level of FC after the SLAM.

I apologize for all of the questions. But I put the 3 gallons of chlorine in the pool, cleaned my skimmer baskets. They were full of bugs and grass and other stuff. I had the weeds around my pool cut down a few days ago when this all started. But now foe some reason my water is not circulating in the pool and my spa. I have an older model Hayward set up with the dials. I checked it and pulled all the dials up to make it run. But nothing is happening. I had the pump replaced 2 years ago when I first bought my house cause it was shot. So I see water moving in the pump but nothing in the pool. Since I am trying to SLAM it shouldn't the water be circulating through the pool as well? I took a picture of my set up and the filter pressure thing. I am just so lost and frustrated right now. Do I need to call my pool guy to come service it now?

"66", have you backwashed lately? Looks like you have a DE filter. As such, those fill up VERY fast with organics which would explain why you feel a weak stream of water at the return jets.. I would recommend doing a backwash which will in turn require to you recharge (add some DE back) to the filter to coat the DE grids inside. Make notes of the new "clean" filter pressure after that, and then backwash whenever the pressure increases by about 25%.

If you have questions about any of this let us know.

I have never done ANYTHING! lol Up until 2 weeks ago I had a pool guy. He did everything for me and my pool. I decided to try and learn this year to do the care of my pool myself and save some money. Which is how I got this green mess going on now. 😆 This is a LOT more than I anticipated. I am trying not to give up and call him back. That 270 a month I was paying him seems like a good investment right now. But I am no quitter so I guess that I will have to learn this backwash thing next. Do I do this after the SLAM has completed or do I do that now and start the SLAM all over again?

You will need to backwash during the SLAM and after as part of normal maintenance. I would recommend hoping on YouTube and search How to backwash my DE filter. You'll see a lot of videos. If you still need help let us know.

Thank you for this. I am going to Leslie's in the morning to get the DE and the waste flow tube. I looked at my filer dial and I did not see where it has a rinse setting. It's an older set up so I am a lilttle wary of how to do it.

@Zetagirl66, It's okay. Not all MPVs have that setting. While some DE owners do have a rinse setting on their MPV, and they use RINSE as a final way to purge the system of any residual product, not all filters have that capability - like yours. No a problem. After your backwash, you can just go back to filter. If there is any residual material in the system, it "might" just go back to the pool and it will get cleaned up later.
