Liquid Chlorine
Hello everyone!
I have a 27ft AGP and I have been using liquid chlorine / bleach for years. Works great but I am wanting something easier and dread lugging gallons of bleach all summer. My pool is salt water compatible and I would like to know the pros and cons and also where do I begin. Salt water generator? If so, what kind. What else is needed to convert to salt water. Thank you for any advice!

SWG takes a little time to understand and get the system running correctly. But once done it is way easier and the water feels so much nicer.

Thank you for responding. Is it difficult to install the generator or does it require professional installation?
If you have some PVC measuring and gluing skills and simple electrical, should go well. Post some pictures of your equipment pad. Does your pump run on a timer? How long each day do you run the pump?

So for a cheaper foray into SWG pools, get an intex swg, I have looked at other and, ohh boy for me they are a little pricy. But the intex has served me well, both an older one, and now this newer 1.

I still run a few pucks on occasion to keep the Cyanuric acid there to help with the chlorine burn off.

I have now this year figured, running in the overnight works AWESOME (Well dun no sun burn off lol)

Also start lower on adding the salt, you can always add, but you have to drain to take it back down. Even with this thought, draining doesn't always work unless its all. I might have been on the high side last year, because after this winters drain down and refill, the SWG is still going great with no low salt warning.

Either way, its great to not have to lug the bleach or measure like crazy, I think I check once a week, and that's if my water looks off.

I have adored my SWG since my Intex days. In fact, my Intex pump/filter combo lasted for years, even after installing my permanent, non-Intex AGP. It’s a much less expensive gateway into the wonderful world of SWGs. Do it!!

Pro :

*You'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner

Con :

*Hard.
*Repeatedly.
😂😂😂 I'm already kicking myself thinking about all the money I spent on bleach over the years. Not including the small fortune I spent at Leslie's pool supply in the beginning when I used used chlorine pucks, shock and algaecide. The SWG would have been a much better option. Hindsight 20/20 lol

I have never thought about using an Intex SWG. That's a great idea and I'll definitely look into that. I looked at a swg today and it's was 1300. A little steep but I like the Intex idea better. Thank you for the tip about the salt. My pool is counter sunk and I do not want to drain it.

Another helpful person commented about using an Intex SWG. I had no idea that was a possibility..why I don't know lol.definitely going to look into that. Thanks so much!

With a pool volume of over 17,000 gallons, I'm not sure there are any Intex systems that will be robust enough. Look at the Circupool RJ-45+. Just under $1,200 right now if you take advantage of the $10 upgrade. The RJ series is well respected here on the forum. Discount salt pool provides good customer service with a decent warranty. On the link below, see the $10 upgrade option.

After I posted regarding the Intex, I noticed 15k gal was max capacity. Thank you for the link bc I have decided to go that route!

A year?!?
All of my friends were spending that per season to fight the swamps they kept getting. I figured I was paying upfront to not have those problems using fancy minerals with Mineral Springs. It turns out the mineral was reallllllllllllllly expensive salt.

I see it's now $50 a bag VS the $8 bags at Home Depot.

I love my RJ 60+ and did a self install, which was very easy because by self install I mean me plus the TFP Army.

While there is a non-trivial up front cost it is less expensive than liquid chlorine over time, you are just buying like 10 years of chlorine up front.

And that's without consideration of the convenience factor!
