I post to pool math since pool opening. It currently indicates my csi is at -72.

Most if not all of my testing indicates that my pool is pretty much in balance. I have read some of the previous threads about csi but it still is not clear to me what it means in my pool?

Can someone please explain in plain language. And something more than it’s ok and don’t worry about it

Thank you

It doesn't mean terribly much in a vinyl pool. But at -.72, your CSI is way too low! We recommend keeping it between -.6 and +.6. Your heater probably cares more about proper CSI than your pool does

Info on CSI: CSI and LSI - Further Reading

Looking at your logs and your current CYA should be rounded up to 80 because the scale is logarithmic.
Although your vinyl liner pool doesn't require as high of CH levels like a plaster pool would, raising it to 300 or so will raise your CSI to a more recommended level (near -0.3).

Most heater manufacturers have a minimum CH requirement.
Some are 200 ppm CH.
Increase your CH from 120 ppm to 200-300 ppm.
Allow your pH to be at 7.8 to 8.0 - if above 8.0, add muriatic acid to lower only to 7.7 to 7.8 and no lower.
With the above, your CSI will be closer to in range.

Also, if your CYA is 71 to 80, it gets entered in PoolMath as 80. Always round up.
For a SWG, the CSI should be kept in the 0.00 to -0.30 range to minimize scaling in the SWG.
With a CYA of 80, your SWG pool target range is 6-11 ppm FC. Having the FC near the top of the target range provides more wiggle room from minimum FC. The pH test is invalid with FC over 10 ppm.

Add your SWG specifics to your signature.

I don’t know how or where to add SWG specifics to my profile banner.

FYI it’s a Hayward T-15 it is listed in my info and when I see my header it’s listed there
