Variable speed vs single speed pump

Which if that's true, could I run at the lowest setting 24 hours? And use the higher setting after heavy rain, social gathering, etc?

If anyone knows any differently, please don't hesitate to correct my information.

Not exactly sure what you were implying but a SWCG makes a set of amount of FC for every minute it is running. Running at low speed or high speed does not affect the SWCG output so long as it activates the flow switch- only how long the pump is on.

Once you install everything, you will run the pump at for example 1200rpm. If the SWCG turns on then that is great, if not, increase 100rpm and see if turns on. Continue until the SWCG is on then at 100 rpm to allow for changes. This becomes the minimum RPM to create chlorine.

Yep.. At low RPMs the pipe size, or the filter size, or your shoes size, does not really matter much...

I have two rent house pools, with 3 HP IntelliFlo pumps, that both have 1.5" plumbing.. They have been running 24/7, mostly at 1200 RPM, for well over 10 years.. I love them..

What about at higher RPMS - is there a point at which the larger 3HP pump will become an issue with 1.5" return lines? I've got a single two inch return line that breaks into two 1.5 inch return lines underground and on into the pool itself. Any recommendation on a particular 2.7-3HP variable speed pump? I saw this one mentioned in another thread:

I'm not familiar with that brand though - but it's like a 1/3 of the price of the popular brands like IntelliFlo or Hayward or Jandy or Jacuzzi for example. Is it worth buying from the better brands?

They've officially priced me out. At this point, I'd laugh if I needed 3 of the cheap pump because I didn't cave and pay the absurd flagship brand prices. Statistically speaking, the first pump would go the distance.

Those with automation, or the thoughts they might go there one day need to stick with their brand so they all communicate. Everyone else is free to mix and match. Everyone's comfort level is different about the generic equipment.

Yeah I just spent about 30 minutes on the phone with PS Unlimited speaking to one of their knowledgeable folks about Calimar vs the other brands - basically Calimar is built in China - that's why it's cheaper - but she said most of the actual components in the more expensive brands are also built in China - so it's not worth 3x the price. They also sell an interface board for $50 with the Calimar pumps that allows it to be set to work with any of the major automation systems - bonus - so I just ordered both the Calimar 3HP pump and their SWCG system along with the the interface board - eventually I'll choose an automation system and I'll have what I need when that time comes. I'll be DIY installing the pump and SWCG system myself the week after next - I'll post into my own thread about my experiences.
