I need to replace the standpipe assembly in my filter and figure it would be a good time to replace the media as well. I’m wondering if I should stick with sand or make the switch to glass media… are there certain situations where one is better than the other?

On another note, how long do the tanks themselves last? The sticker on mine says 2003

As long as the tank isnt leaking/weeping its fine if its undamaged.

The glass is like 10x more expensive for the exact same filter performance as plain pool filter sand. Up to you on that one.

So what I’m reading that’s filters 5 microns vs the 30-40microns with sand isn’t true?? I also read glass lasts 10 years
The age of the sand doesnt matter. Lots of it is hundreds or thousands of years old. The only reason sand needs changing is if someone put some floc or other junk through the filter and gummed it up.

I have glass media and it works the same as the plain sand its just my wallet is $600 lighter for it.
