New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

I had a second Firmware Update Failure, with no way to know if my firmware was up to date or not. I didn't bother with tech support and contacted Selina Dudley directly. I received an acknowledgement on the weekend and a response the next business day, so no complaints about (management) responsiveness. It turned out that my firmware was up to date.

I recommended that they add a Check For Updates option to the app so that folks could be sure that they have the most current firmware without having to contact tech support.

I also reported a "bug" in the app. I had to enter and save a Schedule twice for it to actually be saved. It turns out this is "a feature, not a bug." You have to select and save the Cleaning Mode before you can (successfully) enter and save the Start Time. I recommended that this part of the UI be redesigned or at least properly documented.

FYI Amazon is currently selling these for $799. I got one a week ago and like it.
(I know people like Marina's good customer service and ability to swap out to a finer basket if you are in an area that is more about dust than leaves.)

It was recently noted in this thread that Marina can no longer swap baskets at the point of initial sale. They got their wrist slapped by Aqua Products.

I'm in the market for a new cleaner after my "Kleen Machine" finally died after 10+ years. I'm interested in the 604 or 614IQ, but the lack of repair support or access to parts gives me pause. How concerned should I be about this? Is it worth it instead to go with a cleaner that has a fully supported system behind it like the Maytronics style?

I stopped by Leslie's today to ask about Evo service. The store manager never heard of Evo robots but confirmed they sell it. He also verified online that Polaris makes it and and he said they would provide warranty service even though I didn't buy it from them. He's never had an Evo in for repair. I wouldn't count on this to be Leslie's company policy but that's what happened at my local Leslie's. Marina also told me it's a Polaris so Leslie's would provide warranty service.

For me in NC there's an independent pool store about a 2 hour drive away that does warranty service for the Evo. I got their name from the Aqua Products website under service centers. I called them and confirmed they service Evo and have serviced them in the past.

When using the autolift feature of my 614iq some fine debris will be released from the robot into the pool as I lift the robot from the water as it drains. I can't tell where the debris is coming from.

Anyone have a technique for removing the Evo without it releasing debris?

Ok and this is what I was getting at... It seems that because the Polaris Epic 8642 IQ is similar, *Most of those parts should work on this Evo also? Would that be a fair assumption?

Marina stocks all kinds of EVO repair parts...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Did anybody get any official response from Aqua Products or Fluidra about where and how to get service? It's not acceptable that @djpool21 had to convince the local Leslie's store that they really do repair these units and that EVO owners might have to do this on a store-by-store basis, with no guarantee of success.

Since this thread seems to have turned into the EVO 614 owners club, has anyone had any problems manually turning the unit on or changing the mode manually. It seems to me I have to push the button and hold it for about 3 seconds to get it either button to register and sometimes it takes even longer with several attempts. Do I have a defective unit or is this common. anyone have any secrets when buttons are not responding well?

PA,

If we are talking about using the App, then it just sucks.. I can see my robot from my sunroom. If I push the start button on the app, I can see the robot start, but the app says something like idle...

In my case, I don't normally even use the app, it just came with the robot.

Since I only put the robot in my pool when I think it needs to run, scheduling will not help me. I normally use the power supply to turn it on..

I will say, that when the robot stops, the app always tells me.. Kind of odd, as looking at the app, the robot is not running..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I checked the manufacturer web site and could not find a list of authorized warranty service providers—anybody find that info? Or am I just not seeing it? That’s a big factor in selecting a brand to me—local service center to avoid shipping robot.

If you haven't done so, look a bit earlier in this thread. Leslie's may..............or may not..............service the EVO's.

I stopped by a Leslie's Pools today to see if they'd work on my Pentair Warrior (no dice), and the saleswoman showed me her two Polaris models--I'm assuming they were the 604 and 614, though I wasn't really paying attention since I wasn't interested, at first anyway. She did mention that she only repairs Polaris robots, and could do so in her sleep. Interestingly, she said if I bought from her, she'd give a full 3 year warranty and then even after that, would only ever charge for parts, not labor to fix them. Still, she's asking a few hundred more than Marina is (I think they were $1100 and $1600, or in that range).

Hi Jim,
I am not talking about the app, been too lazy to set it up the past few days, I am talking about when I push the buttons on the power unit they do not register unless I keep them depressed for at least 2 sec, sometimes longer it seems to be a similar problem with either button. Usually I hold for 3-4 sec and 70% of the times that works but the other 30% is a pain because when it fails it does it several times in a row. I am being careful to depress so that I am in the center and can feel that very faint click. I am going to call Marina's if I can get hold of them but that is a chore this time of year it is their busy time from a walkup customer as well as phone.

Mine responds almost immediately with pushing the buttons. Is the wire connected fully and no dirt and no dirt in connection? Any water get in it? Wonder if there is a bad soder connection but don't think it opens easily to check
