Replacing Propane Heater

If you want to get even better flow/energy performance … get rid of that dinky cartridge filter and upgrade to a much larger size. It’s a bit of running joke around here that you can always tell it’s a Florida pool by just looking at a picture of the filter. For some reason, FL pool builders have an aversion to using big filters 🤷‍♂️

When I get the expansion board put in and connect the Intellivalve to Valve C, will I be able to associate that valve C to the SPA circuit?
I am not sure where you are going to put the new valve???

Stock from the factory, the EasyTouch come with 4 valve drivers.. Intake, Return and A and B..

The Intake and Return valve move when selecting the Pool or Spa modes.. This operation can not be changed,

Valves A and B can be assigned to any circuit. I assume so would valve C, but not sure how you could add it.

The EasyTouch cannot use any kind of expansion module??? Do you have an EasyTouch or IntelliTouch?

ScreenLogic does not add anything to how the EasyTouch works, it just allows you to use your PC or phone to control it.

Thanks,

Jim R.

its a C1750. They make larger ones? We originally had a DE filter, but had to move to the 1750 to get enough fliter area to support higher GPM for the spa.

That’s a 175 sq ft cartridge filter … I wouldn’t consider any filter on my pool less than 320sf and, when I ditch my QuadDE and convert to a cartridge it wil be a Pentair CCP 520sf cartridge filter.

Bigger is always better when it comes to filters.

Pentair Valve Module for IntelliTouch Automation 520285 . Attaches to the personality board for ET8, from what I understand.

There is no personality card on the EasyTouch.

You are confusing the EasyTouch with the IntelliTouch.

I guess I misunderstood your reply above. Replacing Propane Heater

In that post you said you found a card for the EasyTouch. I figured it was something I didn't know about. I am always learning things here. But the IntelliTouch card will not work on the EasyTouch.

Well, just great. I guess I’ll remove the valve actuator on skimmer vs Cleaner/Main drain and adjust that manually instead and crank up RPMs n cleaner circuit. Just great. I assume upgrading to intellitouch is very costly. Why does Pentair have two different automation systems anyways? And how can others control multiple water features? Pardon the frustration.

Pentair has more then 2 automation systems.

The EasyTouch and IntelliTouch Pentair declared are obsolete. If you want to upgrade then the IntelliCenter is the modern supported system. The IntelliCenter is modular and upgradeable.

Was ET obsolete in late 2020 when we did the remodel and my PB sold it to me?
Pentair announced the following in April 2023:

Pentair is discontinuing the IntelliTouch, EasyTouch, and EasyTouch PL4/PSL4 Pool Control Systems.[28] These products will no longer be available to order starting:

  • July 31, 2023 for all IntelliTouch Systems
  • September 29, 2023 for all EasyTouch Systems

We recognize these products have been in high demand for many years. However, given advancements in Pentair innovation and evolving industry demands, we are transitioning focus to the latest technology standards included with the IntelliCenter Pool Control System.

Pentair FAQ:

What control system should I order? The recently updated IntelliCenter and IntelliCenter Lite Control Systems are the flagship automation products at Pentair, with both systems offering best-in-class technology and the most versatile control for most pool types.

Will warranties still be honored for my customers’ existing control system?Warranty and replacement parts will be honored as available per our standard warranty policy. For more information, please review the EasyTouch and IntelliTouch FAQs.

Will obsolete products continue to be supported?Products moved to obsolete status will continue to be supported under warranty. Pentair will replace legacy systems under warranty with comparable equipment while parts are available. If replacement parts are unavailable for existing systems under warranty, the IntelliCenter Upgrade Kit for EasyTouch, EasyTouch PL4/PSL4, and IntelliTouch systems may be required.

Has anyone here ever put in the Intellicenter Upgrade Kit for EasyTouch?

What irks me is that users register their products with Pentair, but I never got any end-of-life communication from Pentair, not that it makes much of a difference in my situation.

Pentair communicates with Pool Builders and Pool Stores. They are not a consumer products company.

Thanks. I read a few threads but did not see any yet if someone doing it. It does seem that a pool pro has to install anything Pentair to get any warranty. I do wish that when TFP returns search results, the date of last post is listed so more recent threads can easily be found. I found the sort selector.

If you are on the desktop website you can click on the search Search box and then click on the "Advanced" tab. The advanced tab allows you to restrict the search to specific dates, usernames, etc. If you just tap the "G Search" button, it uses Google to search the forum posts and that has its own algorithm.

There are ways that you can "hack" your EasyTouch panel to add additional relays ... BUT ... it requires you to be comfortable doing some "light" low voltage electrical rewiring. Basically you add another 120v/24v transformer and then use any unused AUX relays to drive low voltage DPDT switch ... its a bit of surgical hack but, when it's done correctly, you can use a programmable AUX circuit to control an actuator.

Not everyone wants to do that, so your other options are gutting the electronics of the ET and converting it to an IC ... OR ... purchase and install a new IC.

I think, for now. I’ll remove the valve actuator on skimmer vs Cleaner/Main drain and adjust that manually instead (normal would be mostly main/cleaner), and return the expansion board to Aqua Pool after I receive it. That will free up the valve A or B for use by the intellivalve, and my (Pentair approved dealer) heater installer can wire it up (so warranty is preserved). The new MasterTemp heater does a cooldown after running, which runs full water through it for a few minutes after shutdown. Would that still be done, or would/could I add a delay on closing the bypass IntelliValve on shutdown?

New MasterTemp heater? What did the old MasterTemp heater do?

If your heater bypass is installed and set following the Pentair Installation instructions you will find that the water flow is not shut off when the heater is in bypass. Water will still flow through for cool down after the bypass opens.
