Hey all. I know if anyone can help with this, you guys will be able to.
To set this up, I have a 20k inground pool with a tanning ledge that has two bubblers. The pool also has a spillover spa. The pool has a skimmer and one return. Most everything is Jandy and we have an iaqualink. We didn't need to do any maintenance the first summer and the pool guys never came back like they promised to show me how everything filters and works. What I noticed after the leaves began to fall (we run the pool year round), is that to empty the filter basket, I had to turn off the filter, open it and deal with a massive rush of water to clean it out. Why? Because the pool guys didn't think they needed to include any shut-off valves for maintenance. I asked them and their answer was "sure we can come out and do that". Knowing how unreliable they are, I didn't bother. A couple weeks ago I decided to cut in a shut off valve on the side that comes out of the heater and back to the pool. I mistakenly assumed that if I shut both that valve off and used the switch to shut off the valve before the filter, I would be good to go. Not so...
When I cut in the valve, I had to drain the water low enough to stop the flow and dry it out. When I opened the filter basket, it drained all of the water from the spa. This, along with turning off the valve that I think controls the spillover/bubblers and the intake valve before the filter dried it up once the spa had drained completely. I found no way to drain that spa water into the pool, but I feel like I have seen them do that before.
Long story sort of short, despite adding in the shut off valve and turning off the intake valve before the filter, when I opened the basket, it started draining spa water. The reason for even messing with it today was one, to clean out the basket because we had a ton of rain last night and a lot of debris collected in there and two, because I was hoping to lower the overall pool water level since the spillover is not working today (assuming because the pool is filled too high).
Attached is a picture where I have noted what I believe everything is for. Any help would be great. All I want is to be able to drain some water out of the pool if necessary to fix the spillover (filter and skimmer are still working, but I am hoping it is just the high water level stopping the spillover and not some other issue) and also to perform maintenance on the filter and empty the filter basket without losing gallons of water doing so. Thank you in advance!
Jamie
