Salt startup and levels

Your SWCG is new and thus over producing 3000/2400 is 1.25. That will not last a long time. So watch the SWCG as it will report low salt in the future. But to keep the amps at a reasonable level, do not add salt until the unit notifies and you double check it with the salinity test.

It is also dependent on any swing in your daily FC. If you aren't producing all of your FC during peak sunlight hours, the FC will swing similar to a liquid chlorine pool.

Say, your SWG adds 4ppm over 24 hours, but the day's loss occurs over 6 hours. At 2pm you may be down 3ppm from the 5 you were targeting.

What do you guys use for a sock for the dry stabilizer? One video I watched on YouTube used something called a skimmer sock
As opposed to a sock that I might wear on my foot. How do you secure the sock? Is it best to put the sock in the skimmer or in front of a return? If in front of a return, not sure how I would secure it.

What does the OmniPL say the salt level is?

Solid/granular CYA should be placed in a sock and the sock put in the skimmer basket or suspended in front of a pool return. If suspending near a return jet, ensure the sock cannot rest against the pool surface since the granules are acidic and could potentially discolor the surface. After adding CYA you should leave the pump running for 24 hours and not backwash/clean the filter for a week. After soaking for about 30 minutes, squeezing the sock periodically will help it to dissolve faster. Test and dose chemicals in your pool assuming the amount of CYA added is in the pool according to Poolmath. CYA can be tested the day after it is fully dissolved from the sock.
How long does it take the CYA to dissolve from the sock?

With our pool volume we do not need to add much at one time. I use a very thin sock (knee high stockings work great) and put it in the skimmer basket. It dissolves in an hour or so. During the summer, with warm water and a hair net over the skimmer basket, I pour it into the hair net. It is gone in minutes.

So I tested my FC after having the chlorinator on 10% since Sunday, and FC is still real
High 13 (down from 15). Do you recommend I turn the chlorinator to off completely?

No, just be patient and let the chlorine drift down.

Why a rush?

Worried that the pH is too high and might damage stuff. But if it is okay, i’ll just wait it out . At what FC level am I okay to add the CYA? 7?

You can add the CYA now. No reason to wait. In fact the CYA is a low strength acid and will reduce your pH a bit.

The pH will not damage anything for another week or two.

I just stated to wait on the CYA as that will reduce the FC quicker. At the end of the day, it all does not matter that much. Add it now if you want.

So Friday night my FC was still high at 9.5, but under 10, so I added muriatic acid. Today I added the CYA with the sock method. I added what pool math had said to add (2lbs 15oz). Someone here said to add 2lbs. I hope I didn’t add too much: I checked my FC today and it was 5.5. I am turning back on my SWCG. Should I put I for 50%? And for how many hours? I will check all the levels tomorrow after work. How long after adding the CYA is the CYA test result accurate? Should I run my pump overnight for good mixing?

You just added CYA. What is your estimated CYA going to be with this addition?
Use this "new" CYA estimate for your CYA number to determine your FC range.
Once the CYA is added, consider it in the pool (even though it isn't registering on the test).

Enter your pump runtime and set target FC to 2ppm higher than current FC. This should provide SWG percentage for your entered runtime. This SWG percentage will need to increase as the weather warms up (as the pool will use more FC in hotter weather).

I am not sure what the new estimated CYA is. I followed recommended amount pool math gave me for my CYA of 30. It wanted me to add 2lbs 15 oz. I added maybe 2lb 13oz. Do I use the part of pool math that tells Me what the effect would be? The effect of adding the amount of stabilizer I added adds 42-43 CYA to the 30 I have. So in recs for FC it says 3-10.0.

so would I then play with the effects of adding calculator until it shows this?
