How do you connect a Rheem heat pump and a Pentair EasyTouch PL4/PSL4?

I'm sorry for the long post.
Here goes...

THE EQUIPMENT INSTALL
Last spring the company that installed my Pentair pool pump, also installed a Rheem heat pump (model number 8450TI-E-HC) and a Pentair EasyTouch PL4/PSL4 automation box.

The pool equipment installer had problems installing the automation box so they had the Pentair field rep to come out (FIELD REP #1). The pool equipment installer and the Pentair field took 2 hours to connect the heat pump and the automation box using 2 bell wires, which were laid directly on the ground (see attached photo). The installer said I'd be able to control the heat pump temperature with the Pentair app. Last summer, the heat pump did a good job keeping the water cool, but I never thought I was in control of the heat pump using the app. I've always felt the heat pump was being controlled by the control panel on the pump itself. Did that make sense?

THE HEAT PUMP REPAIRMAN
Last fall, the display on the heat pump was on the fritz (another long story). A Rheem repairman came out and while he was fixing the display he informed me that the heat pump wasn't properly connected to the Pentair automation box. I asked the Rheem repairman to dig into this and let me know what was needed. The Rheem repairman called FIELD REP #1 who had been at my house the day the equipment was installed and Rep 1 admitted to the Rheem repairman he didn't know the answer and told him to call another field rep in a neighboring state. (FIELD REP #2).

THE DATA CABLE
Field rep #2 told the Rheem repairman that there is a data port in the automation box and a data port in the heat pump that is connected by a special data cable. The rim repairman showed me the port on the heat pump. I've called my pool equipment installer and first, it gave me the runaround (what's new) insisting the two pieces of equipment were properly connected. Now he's attempting to pass me off to Rheem and/or Pentair, washing his hands. This isn't an equipment issue, he mis-installed the equipment.

HERE'S MY QUESTION
Is there any documentation that shows the proper way to connect this heat pump with this automation box? I don't have any confidence in my installer's understanding of the equipment or his willingness to fix his problem.

Again, sorry for the long post,
Thank you for your help!

I know what the EasyTouch is and I know what the 8450 HP is. I don’t know what automation box you got.

The 8450 manual is at

Page 46 describes how it connects to the EasyTouch. The EasyTouch can only control the HP in HEAT mode with a 2-wire connection from #44 & #46 to the heater connection on the EasyTouch board.

Thank you!
So 2 bell wires lying on the ground is correct?
Can't I wire Heat on 44 & 46 and cool on 45 & 46?
The equipment vendor has been a problem from day one. I knew they sold me a last-generation automation that can't control everything I wanted to control. UGH! I wanted an Intelliflow.

Yes, 2 wires if they are connected properly.

Can't I wire Heat on 44 & 46 and cool on 45 & 46?

The EasyTouch Is not that smart.

You should have got a Pentair IntelliCenter and a Pentair UltraTemp Heat Pump. Pentair does heating/cooling control through a 2 wire RS-485 data comm link.
