Never had a pool before. Just purchased a home with a pool.

I live in Mesa, AZ. The pool is 10,000 gallons. I have a Pentair Intelliflo 2 VST Variable Speed pump. 3.0 HP. There are two different pumps each with separate programmers.

How many RPM should I run and for how long each day and how many times per day. Are there specific times I should set the RPM’s to run each day. I am reading that I should set a lower speed time and a higher speed time for each day.

As slow and as long as possible while still performing the functions you need. For many of us that means running 24x7 at a very low speed. Exact RPM will vary.

If you have a salt chlorinator or a heat pump, etc those typically have a minimum amount of flow they like to work at.

Doug,

You don't just run the pump for x hours a day.. You want to run the pump to accomplish a goal..

If you have a SWCG, or a Tab feeder, you need to run the pump fast enough and long enough to make the amount of chlorine you need.

You need to run the pump fast enough and long enough to skim the pool the way you like.

If you have waterfall, you need to run the pump at a speed where your waterfall works like you want it..

The key is what are you trying to accomplish when you run your pump???

I run my pump 24/7, most at 1200 RPM.. This is the speed that lets my SWCG work and it is also fast enough to allow my skimmers to work well. I like making a little chlorine all the time and skimming all the time. I also like the look of my pool when there is a little motion to the water.

But.. Each pool and pool owner is different, so you need to decide what is important to you.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Welcome to TFP!

Tell us a bit more about your pool?
What does each pump do?
Water features?
Infloor cleaner?
Pressure side cleaner?
SWG?
Heater?
Spa?
Automation?

Post a few pics of your pool and pool equipment pad so we can see what you have.

Many of us run our main pump 24/7. 1000rpm - 1200rpm should work for skimming unless you have other equipment that requires a higher rpm (SWG, heater, cleaner).
In Mesa with SRP electric, you can run the pump at 1000rpm - 1200rpm for less than $20/month.
