Interesting that diamond crystal costs more than Morton pool salt. Morton’s still a no go?
There’s a million posts on this topic and still a variety of opinions. Sorry for starting another one =(
I’m trying to figure out the best salt to buy to convert pool over. I am looking to purchase 400 lbs+ I do see this one posted frequently,
Should I be looking for a pool salt? There’s no clear pick since everyone has their opinions.![]()
Diamond Crystal Solar Naturals Water Softener Salt Crystals 100012454 - The Home Depot
Minimize accumulation of brine tank residue by using this Solar Naturals Water Softener Salt Crystals from Diamond Crystal.www.homedepot.com
I want to go to SCP and see what salt they carry, unless anyone knows.
Wow yuck !!Here's a picture of my salt brine tank of my water softener in my home. Needed salt and all sources were closed so I resorted to a friend that keeps spare on hand. To my dismay all he had was Morton yellow bag and just grabbed one to cover the water line to avoid stratification in the regeneration cycle. Next morning went to check the salt level post cycle and this crud was floating in the water. Slightly tedious it was but I got 99% of the dirt with a kitchen spatula sifter which I never new we had until the moment arose.

Yes, I seen your post on aquasalt so I dug a bit deeper into them.I’ve personally have had issues with the following products, so I avoid them;
Aquasalt
Mortons
Diamond Crystal Splash Ready Pool Salt
Though I personally haven’t tried Clorox salt, I’ve read multiple reports about problems, so I avoid it as well.
For some time now I’ve been using the product you linked, Diamond Crystals Solar Naturals for water softeners, without issues, so I stick with it.
I just did a salt test for the first time, is this right , I tested 1500 ppm? All I’ve done is add Muriatic acid and liquid chlorine… seems quite high imo
1500 ppm? Seems high for a month, about 4 gallons of Muriatic acid 31.45 and about 13 gallons of chlorine.. according to TFP it shouldn’t be that high unless I tested incorrectly.Liquid chlorine (and MA?) add salt to the pool, so what you are seeing is perfectly normal and harmless.
Explain your testing procedure.1500 ppm? Seems high for a month, about 4 gallons of Muriatic acid 31.45 and about 13 gallons of chlorine.. according to TFP it shouldn’t be that high unless I tested incorrectly.

Before I converted to salt, my initial salt reading was 1200ppm. You can always do a second test.I just did a salt test for the first time, is this right , I tested 1500 ppm? All I’ve done is add Muriatic acid and liquid chlorine… seems quite high imo
I have the Taylor k-1766 test and followed the directions. Stopped when it became a reddish color.Explain your testing procedure.
Yes I did, but I’ll retest againHopefully you used the 10ml measurement cause instructions almost miss that.
The test is 200ppm per drop. Not possible to get 1500.I just did a salt test for the first time, is this right , I tested 1500 ppm? All I’ve done is add Muriatic acid and liquid chlorine… seems quite high imo
It was 7-8 drops so I split it, sorry for the confusionThe test is 200ppm per drop. Not possible to get 1500.
Are you saying 15 drops? If so, your salt is 3000ppm.
It’s vertical, not sure how fast I squeezed. I’m going to pick up the salt here shortly, I’ve read to add half so I can re test then and really pay attention. If I need 3600 ppm for ic40, guess I can start with 1200 as starting point and add how much?Make sure the reagent bottle is vertical. VERY SLOWLY SQEEZE the drops. Let them get big and drop under their own weight.
