Hi guys,

I have been a member for a few years and have been maintaining my pool for over 10 years with no problems until now.

Long story short, left for a summer vacation to Canada and my wife broke her arm (humerus) while mountain biking. A two week vacation turned into 4 weeks away from home and we returned to a VERY green pool. Never seen it like that ever. To top it off, given that my wife had to have surgery I just could not mess with the pool for another couple of weeks.

Anyways, once I had some time and started looking into it, I went for my go to which is to nuke it with Clorox hard. I got it to where it was blueish but very murky still, so I drained about 6k gallons (23k gallon pool) and refilled it. I then kit it hard again with Clorox - which the pool eats it like candy- and here is where I am, a blue pool but I cannot see the bottom.

Been running the pump 24hrs for the last three days and changing the filter daily for a clean one.
I used two of those baggies of shock that I picked up at the supermarket out of desperation even though I don't really like them.

My numbers as of today using my TF-100:

CYA = 45
FC = 3.5 ppm (I put in 15 gallons of Clorox in the last two days, 13 day one and 2 day two)
CC= 3 ppm
TC = 6.5 ppm
TA = 40
CH = 210

I am going to pick up another 15 gallons of Clorox tomorrow (8.25%) and dump them all in.
The 3ppm of CC indicates that I still have something feeding on my chlorine, correct?
Currently set my salt cell to boost so that it works at 100% for 24hrs

Is there anything stronger than chlorine that I can use? This was an expensive process with the gallon at around $6 plus all the water and electricity of the pump.

Here is a picture of what the pool/spa looked like yesterday as I was refilling, you cannot see the two drains at the bottom on a 5.5' deep pool.

Any help/input is appreciated!

Follow the SLAM Process
Your CYA of 50 means a SLAM FC of 20. Do not go over that level.
Also, please do not use Clorox. All of it has Cloromax. Best to go to Walmart and get Pool Essentials Chlorinating Liquid. Or in your area Pinch a Penny normally has 2.5 gallon refillable jugs.

I had no idea about Cloromax, will go to Walmart and look for PECL!

What happens if I were to go above FC20? is it harmful or am I just wasting chlorine?

I will look up the SLAM process, the link just takes me to a blog page with nothing on it.
