Pool pump won’t turn off!

Afternoon everyone, thank you for having me here. First time to post on the site, just found this place after trying to troubleshoot my issues.

I’ve had my pool for 7 years now. I have all Pentair equipment on salt pool, Easy touch controller.

Recently my Pentair Whisperflo High Performance Pump 011775 went out (suspect the motor locked up, but we did have a storm the night before) and I got just the motor replaced from local pool store with a Century brand replacement motor.

Now the pump will not turn off without shutting it down with the breakers on the easy touch panel on side of house. Nothing on the panel or my phone app will make the pump turn off. All other functions on the app and panel will operate (spa controls, lights, air pump etc) I did go into the settings and make sure pump was on setting 1 and speed was set but nothin helps.

Anyone have a clue??

Sounds like you fused the relay, do you have a multimeter and know how to use it?

What kind of motor did you install. The quoted info above is used when you have a VS pump. It sounds like you have a single speed pump???

Using a voltmeter to troubleshoot is the best option. But another option would be to drop the front panel of the EasyTouch and unplug the Pump/Filter connector from the main circuit card.. If the relay is stuck closed, then unplugging the connector will have no effect. If the pump stops when you unplug the connector, then the relay is good and the problem is in the EasyTouch.

I read on another thread about setting up the pump. I was thinking in my head this probably wasn’t right. What setting should I be on?

HT,

Your single speed pump is turned on and off by the Pump/Filter relay. There is really no 'settings' that need to be changed.

You should have a schedule that turns the pump/Filter relay on and off. The pump should be wired to the load side of the relay.

Show me your schedule for the Pool Circuit.

Just unplug the pump filter J8 connector and see if the pump stops.

You do it from the back of the main card. Looks like this..

I unplugged it and pump stayed on

HT,

That is good.. That means one of two things..

Most likely your relay is stuck shut and all you need to do it replace it.

Or your installer wired it up to constant power.

If you have an unused relay, just swap it with the bad one.

Yes, looks like the top left is your filter relay. It also looks like you have several spares (three on bottom right) so you could swap 1 of those into the pump position.
You have some other issues as well that should be immediately resolved.
1. Lack of gfci on pump breaker
2. Pump breaker is oversized (30a) should be 20amp gfci (confirm wire is #12)

Glad it worked out!
Now take the money you saved by not having the pool guy do it and order the 20a gfci breaker

Depending on what blower motor you have, (and anything else on that circuit) you may want/need a second standard 2 pole 20 amp breaker to put the blower motor on.
The pump draws 11.5a, the swg is 1a and the blower, depending on size is 4-6a so best case you are over 80% load on a 20a circuit and i can see there is at least 1 other items pigtailed off that breaker. My guess is someone swapped the 20 to a 30 since it was tripping

Last, while I'm spending your money , in your area it may behoove you to add a surge suppressor on the pool panel.
I have this one but there are many and it's not a whole lot more difficult to install than the relay you swapped.
