Opening my pool and want to do it real nice this time

Non chlorine shock is mps - it is an oxidizer only- not a sanitizer. Chlorine is both an oxidizer & sanitizer.
Mps can cause irritation and also shows up as cc’s when testing.
Don’t waste your $$$ or your time.
Just keep using adequate amounts of liquid chlorine.

You don’t need clarifier, its use is not recommended.
Regular use gums up your filter media.
Just use adequate amounts of chlorine to avoid cloudy water.

If you have a sand filter (this info is not in your signature) you can add a little de to help “polish” the water & help the sand capture finer particles.
Here’s the how to👇

So long as you do the important things:
#1- Maintain proper FC/CYA Levels
#2 - keep ph in the 7’s
#3 - don’t add stuff you don’t need
#4 - test your other levels weekly
You won’t need to do extra things.
I thought you wanted simple- buying & adding extra unneeded stuff is complicated.

Log results first then go to the overview cards & adjust the parameters you need to adjust. If you do it this way the latest test results will show automatically as “current” in each overview card.

Monte, why do you keep shopping around for more stuff to put in your pool?
Serious question.
I don't- but I have always had a bottle of the clarifier and I add 1 capful and let it sit for a night then vacuum and backwash- I should be getting an A for effort- I have done nothing else to my pool except for the clarifier- I have been adding liquid chlorine etc as needed to keep my fc at a proper sanitizing level but clarifier just makes my pool POP-- that's all. As you can see my CYA is going down- remember I had it at 176 last year and it now is 90- so I am getting there. Once that is normalized and I can get my additions of chlorine normalized and my pool POPS without anything else - I will be OK with it.

not sure what an overview card is-- I went into settings and shared my results and I did this as the person above told me to--------
(You can hit the + at the bottom and log your test results.
The three lines at the top left will get you to the effects of adding calculator.)
But not sure what an overview card is.
Also, why does it say my TA is outside the normal range- MOST articles say that 110 is fine.

I was hoping to get some pat on the back-- as you can see from the article you guys sent me- with my CYA( I literally cut it in half from last year) being I should have a minimum of fc at 7 and a target of 10-12. I am at 13-16 to keep things sanitized- so I am really trying to get this right. I just cannot wait to stop using so much bleach each time to keep the level at that 15-16 by adding daily or every other day. And I truly can't wait to just add the larger amount weekly(like I did with shock)- once everything is as close to the textbook as possible.

also, does anyone know how costly it would be to change to a saltwater pool initially? If doing this would save me all this work in the future ?- it may be worth it for me to clear my head so to speak.

No one gives pats on back when you do this.

Why not exchange more water and get your CYA down?
How much FC is the pool burning per day ?
What the lowest FC reading you have tested in the last couple days?
What's your water cost per 1k?

Each one of these is a “card” on the overview page
They are clickable

I can see your logs now & your last test results 👍🏻
Your ta is fine - don’t sweat it

From a site called SWIM UNIVERSITY Contaminants, particles, and small debris in your pool can cause cloudy water. This is especially common this time of year. And there are two specially designed chemicals to get your pool crystal clear fast.

Introducing Weekly Clarifier and Fast Floc!

Weekly Clarifier uses your pool filter system to clear up the cloudy water. This is the easiest method for clearing cloudy pool water. A pool clarifier works with any filter type and works best with milder cloudy water issues. The coagulated particles cannot be removed by your filter, so you must be able to vacuum the water out of your pool while bypassing your filter media.

The above message is from a site I have been on for years and always get e-mails from- SWIMUNIVERSITY.-- Have u ever heard of them-- he has recommended Clarifier weekly- I only use it maybe 2-3 per season. But you say it messes up the filter media-- Please explain how that happens if I vacuum it out to waste?? I guess you might be talking about when I added it at night with the filter on- that is when that stuff goes thru the filter overnight UNTIL I vacuum it out to waste. How come they do not mention this? Nobody seems to be on the same page ALL THE WAY--- if you know what I mean. And this guy has tons of videos on youtube and has replied to me directly when I sdend him a question?

If you don't pay for the upgraded pool math app.
It will only let you save one set of results.
Delete the old one out of the saved logs before making a new one.
On my log page- it shows today's logs and my logs from 2 days ago- so you are saying to delete my 2 days ago logs because I just noticed that when I pressed the + sign it says to update to premium?-- so if I delete my oldest logs I can then add the newest logs?

I am currently going thru this
click on my name and go to my messages and dig thru them for info and pictures.
The SWG was just over 1000 bucks shipped.
Then with electrical and plumbing parts from the big box store add another 200-300

I figured cost before buying, if it lasts the recommended hours it will be 5-6 x cheaper than liquid chlorine.

If it says update to premium to add something. If you delete the old one it will let you make a new entry.

I see 1 log and 3 additions. Don't need to delete the old additions.

You’re learning & we are proud!

The deal is that the pool eats every single day - it was doing this before but you were starving it except for once a week. That’s not a good thing.
It is safe to swim with fc all the way up to slam level for your cya so you don’t have to micro dose each day so long as it never falls to minimum before the next dose. I don’t suggest only testing/dosing once a week that’s a recipe for a problem. The idea is that your testing makes you proactive before things get out of hand instead of only being reactive when the water looks bad & things have gone too far.

You have an 11k gallon pool so we recommend at least a 25k gallon rated system. There are various factors that play into the cost of a system (rated lifespan, warranty, output etc) .
Here’s a good comparison chart.
The circupool models are a good value & several here have also been pleased with the pureline line of swg’s from inyopools. Hayward & pentair are premium choices as well.
A swg will feed your pool chlorine for you but you must still test your water regularly and make adjustments as needed.
As I said before, nothing is really set it & forget it if you want to have a healthy pool.
I agree with Kaylee, you said you want simple but you keep looking for extras to throw in/more work to do.
Dosing with liquid chlorine every 2 or 3 days to stay above minimum & keeping ph in the 7’s is pretty simple.

You've earned a pat on the back for the hard work getting the CYA down and monitoring that progress. Truly well done and keep up the good work. You'll get it down to a manageable level and I have no doubt you'll work hard to keep it there.

Monte, this site isn't about dumping chemicals once a week and then walking away. It's about understanding your pool water chemistry and using only what you need, when you need it, to keep a clean, sanitary and sparkling pool. You're a smart guy but I do think you're failing to grasp this one thing. It's your pool and you can manage it any way you want but going back to once a week shocking is eventually going to land you right back in the boat that brought you here in the first place.

I truly believe a saltwater generator would be ideal for you. I wish I lived closer. If I did, I'd be more than happy to come go over your pool with you. I'd even bring the coffee.
