High CYA and can't drain

Welcome to TFP!!! :swim:

While unfortunate, with a CYA above 100, you cannot maintain a HOCl value that is safe for people, protecting them from bacteria. You need to figure out a way to replace water.

My problem with water replacement is the waste. I am not sure how to drain it to sewer system because our pool is close to the house and we can’t drain it to back yard. We just bought the house and I have no idea how to deal with pool issues

Your home must have a sewer clean out. Or contact your local authorities and find out if you can drain to the curb.

OK. Use 10 ml water sample. One scoop of R0870 powder. Each drop of R0871 to colorless is 0.5ppm FC.
If the sample turns pink/red when you add the powder, there is chlorine in the water. Some must be being added.

I really appreciate you guys! I am very nervous and have no knowledge about pool. My pool has very high level of chlorine as well as cya. I am not sure why they added that high level of chlorine but after a month, I see although chlorine level is 36 ppm, ( I have added no chlorine since I got the house a month ago), some black and yellow algae are appearing. I am planning to drain the pool, but do you how to get rid of the algae and should I treat them before draining or after it.

A pool will not hold that level of chlorine unless it is covered. Has it been covered? Algae is eradicated with chlorine.

No, it has not been covered for a month. I guess the put tons of chlorine and after a months dropped to 36ppm. The cya is higher than 100 according to Taylor test. Can cya be the reason that the pool still has very high chlorine level?

Does not matter now. If you are testing your CYA at above 100 and your water is not very costly, look at draining it. Be ware you need to be careful of draining a pool if you have shallow surface water or lots of rain. See Draining - Further Reading

Thanks! What shallow surface means? And what’s wrong with that? I live in Seattle. We do have a lot of rain, but i don’t know what does it have to do with draining
