Hi! Amateur pool owner here that spends lots of time learning from the pros at this site but I’m stumped! Last year, I replaced the sand filter and motor for our abover ground pool. We had a great season with no issues. I followed all the instructions for the winter closing. Upon opening the pool today I started up the filter. Great water flow and intake. Let this run for an hour or so and got ready for the first backwash. The intake is not existent and the water is free flowing out of the waste hose. The rinse and waste cycles work fine. I took off the multiport valve and checked it in both locations (directly under the handle and the entire component. Everything looks clear and operational. Suggestions??? Please help!

Sorry I'm so dense, but I don't understand the problem you are having..

Are you saying that when you are in the backwash mode, that you are not getting any flow, or very little flow out of your waste line?

What does "the water is free flowing out of the waste hose" mean?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Filter, waste, and rinse cycles all function properly. No leaks. My only difficulty is with the backwash cycle.

And it will appear that way just do yourself a favor and make sure "pump" is connected to hose from the pump. If you already checked and all is well disregard but I could not believe I had done it lol. Good luck I'm headed out to sweep mine.

A lot more common than one might think at spring opening. Lots on an owner's mind during the opening process and sometimes the most obvious thing just gets past the eyes.
