Skimmer basket tends to float up and upside down after pump turns off.

When I go out to check on my pool in the morning (pump still off), I often find the skimmer basket floating instead of sitting where it's supposed to be, and anything that the basket has collected is just floating around in there. Seems to be the right basket, fits in the space correctly, yet it's floating up. Any ideas on this one?

There are weighted skimmer baskets to prevent floating or put a rock in the basket to hold it down. The rock should be larger then your skimmer pipes so it cannot fall in which we have had happen to members.

Great idea. So not a totally uncommon occurrence? I have every size rock to choose from especially after my pool deck installation. I'll get a big enough one. Thanks for the tip!

My skimmer basket is set up to use a bayonet style fitment to lock it in place on the skimmer. Made perfect sense to me to keep everything where it should be. Is it possible the original fitment locked in place or the basket was made of some sort of plastic that sinks?

As long as you’re putting a rock in it out a hairnet or sock in it too. My basket’s handle was enough to weigh it down until the hairnet went in, then i needed a rock.

Not sure I'm understanding. Why would I want to put a hairnet/sock in there?

Oddly enough, my skimmer sock created a gasket bind where if folds over the basket rim. Makes the basket fit tight to pot.

Not sure if this is allowed but this is what I have put into my skimmer basket this year.

After choosing a rock that wasn't quite heavy enough, I found the perfect one and my basket no longer flips, so thank you!. The rock I found has sort of a flat side on the end, so it sort of sits up vertically and doesn't block too much flow at the bottom.

Ha. I couldn't resist.
