The pool store raised an eyebrow when I purchased 12lbs of stabilizer. I typically use 8+ lb to get to the STILL reccomended SWG levels of 60-90.
They were going on about how the Gov't lowered the standard amount of CYA in pools to 20ppm. Something to do with the shock that people buy from WallyWorld containing CYA.
I stopped listening after she said "Gov't" and politely said I'd check my sources.
You can add this to the mantra of "don't listen to what the pool store tells you".

No chemical levels at this time - tons of work to do before we get to that point.

I don't think that person realizes that if this story and reasoning were true then it would mean that the PHTA lobbied for the reduction specifically because they can't compete with big box stores and so needed to change the rules to benefit them. 🤦‍♂️

Someone called me? Oh, I guess not, you figured it out on your own...

I figured that would cause a few laughs.
@Texas Splash - I love the meme!
FWIW....I like to keep the local pool store in business. They usually have some supplies I need. Sometimes it is good to shop the little guy.
Just don't listen to their advice!;)

Or let them test your water 🙈🙉🙊
I support mine by buying liquid chlorine twice a year & sometimes salt & stabilizer or pool peripheral.

+1. I often times want a random part today to get the system back up and running. And I don't care the O-ring is $2 more if I can match it up and know for sure it's the right one.

Some of the one chemical - chemicals are reasonably priced enough if I don't feel like crossing town and dealing with Walmartians. Chances are I'm also fully dressed and will look out of place there without fuzzy slippers and an exposed thong.

But while I wait on line and am forced to overhear whatever nonsense they are spewing to the people in front of me........ I want to bleach my ears.

Where I live, I would love to support small mom & pop pool stores. Unfortunately, there are more franchises of Leslie’s in Las Vegas than probably anywhere else. So far, I’ve only found one non franchise pool store but it is a 30 minute drive away. So I frequent Walmart for liquid chlorine but no more jug lugging for me, since it’s warmed up. Earlier today I’ve turned on the SWG. I have to get MA at the big box stores, though.

I'm in the same boat... my "local" pool store is a Leslie's...

Here I was having a nice peaceful evening.. the exchange students playing peacefully in the pool until I ran out looking for the chlorine to clean my eyes.
