Omnipl LVR1 and Heatpump

Hello,

After much troubleshooting and trying to find an answer online I'm officially stumped. I have a New OmniPL setup for an existing pool with an older Aquacal SQ175a Heat pump. OmniPL is setup and everything (VSP, Blower via HVR, Salt Cell, sensors) works except the heat pump control. Air Sensor and Temperature sensor are setup and functioning. Here's the issue:

The Aquacal heat pump allows for a 2 or 3 wire control. The heat pump was put into external Control Mode via the Aquacal Manual here: https://www.aquacal.com/uploads/aquacal-connecting-external-controllers.pdf
for 2 wire Connection (Digital) at the top of Page 5.

The LVR1 reads 5v (as supplied by the Heatpump). The heat pump is added in Omnipl and heat is called for (Its turned ON and Temperature is above water temp).... Nothing happens. I also tried LVR2 just to see if it was an issue with the #1 Relay and end up with the same result. I'm really not sure if there is something that needs to be changed on the Heat pump or Automation. Any ideas?

Is that 5V the voltage sent by the Omni at the terminal on your heat pump? I've reread that a few times to try and understand it.

I wanted to double check this am to make sure my reply was accurate. Without anything hooked up to the LVR1 or LVR2 I get a reading of 0V (both Across and from each terminal to ground). The 5v is reading at the LVR1 only because the Y,Z wires from the heat pump are supplying this current. Disconnecting the 2 control wires I get 5v when reading across the two. (Going Y to Ground I get approximately 0V and Z to ground shows about 4A)

I'm a little unclear on these two points:
1.) There isn't much information on how the Aquacal external control actually work. I'm not sure if this is a RS485 control or 24v. I'm guessing RS485 because I'm not reading 24v.
2.) Is the Omnipl LVR1 just what the name implies? A relay that just connect the two wires when turned on? or is it actually a smart relay that will interface with the RS485?

Your Aquacal is mcroprocessor controlled. The 5V is a sense line that tells the microprocessor if the circuit is open of closed to operate the heater.

It is not RS-485 digital comm.

2.) Is the Omnipl LVR1 just what the name implies? A relay that just connect the two wires when turned on? or is it actually a smart relay that will interface with the RS485?

It is just an open/close relay.

Then I should be able to connect the Y and Z lines together and the heat pump should turn on?

Tested this and it works as advertised. So my problem lies somewhere with the OmniPL…. Ideas?

Connect your ohmmeter to the relay you are trying to use and see if the OmniPL is opening and closing the relay.

It is not opening and closing the relay. Neither LVR1 or LVR2 connect when the heater is turned on. Doing a power reset now.

Do you have a water temperature sensor installed?

Check your configuration for your Bodies of Water and for the Heater.

The Configuration Setup is the most complex part of Hayward automation.

In service Mode both relays were tested and worked.

I do have a water temperature sensor.

It’s something with the configuration then…

I tried to look at every option but I can’t seem to get it to turn on.

-The temperature selected is higher than the current water temperature. (83)

-The heater is turned “on”.
-the pump speed is currently running higher then the minimum pump speed

The heater just says “READY”.

(I also created a schedule just to see if that would do anything. No joy.)

I dumped the entire old configuration and completely re-setup the pool. Low and behold it works. So much time troubleshooting for something weird that was going on. I really appreciate your time and insight. You are invaluable to this community. I thank you.
