I have read many threads on this and have replaced the air sensor a couple times they work fine for a couple days then read 40 degrees low and freeze protection kicks on. I kill the power for 10 to 12 hours turn it back on and its fine again for a couple of days then I get bad readings again. Seems that most faulty sensors read high not low? Is this a bad board about 22 years old. Any help much appreciated.

To test the board get a 10K resistor and put it in place of the temperature sensor. It should read 76F. If it doesn't or drifts over time then you have a bad board.

How do you "wire" the resistor Bend both ends and screw them into the place where the wires go? I am pretty handy but electronics aren't my specialty.

Yes, connect the ends of the resistor to the screws you attach the temperature sensor wires to.
