Extremely Loud Filter & Shaking

Hi all,

I woke up this morning to an extremely loud sound coming from my filter. Video link below. In the video, the sound goes away because I stopped the pump running. Sound only appears to occur when the pump is running at high RPM (3000+), during priming and initial morning startup. The PSI on the pressure gauge was not any higher than normal when the sound was occuring. Pool built in April of '21, just ordered my first replacement filter cartridge in case that is the problem... Pool was replastered in November due to installation issue at time of original construction.

Any help is GREATLY appreciate,

Jacob

Sounds like maybe a problem with the impeller.

I would check the impeller and seal and remove and clean the cartridge and check for any obstructions.
Checked the impeller, no debris or any obstructions. I cleaned the cartridge yesterday, and go figure, once reinstalled and operating this morning is when the sound occurred. Some pics of the filter and cartridge included:

I assume I will know one way or the other when the new cartridge I ordered comes in a couple days? I will circle back with some hopeful closure once I get it in. Would you recommend I not run the pump without the cartridge in while I was? Thanks again & Happy New Year.

The cartridge should fit snugly over the round part in the top and in the bottom.

Is the fit tight or loose?

What is downstream of the filter?

It appears to be a good fit, but it’s hard to really say for certain. Looking down at the “fit” it appears there may be about a centimeter gap all the way around between the cartridge and the filter housing. A couple pics for reference, one showing what is downstream, and another one looking down the cartridge (difficult to discern anything from that one).

Jacob,

As a test, I'd take the SWCG out and fire it up and see what you get.

I'd only run it long enough to see if it solved your filter issue. You'd have to do something to keep the water way for the pump, like maybe add a piece of 3" or 4" drainpipe just to get the water away for the pad.

Thanks,

Jim R.
