Instapark Betta review

I uploaded the photo into Google image - pickling spices! That’s exactly what they look like to me too. Sour pickle spices.
Yep, really small oak galls. If they sink they go through main drain, into pump basket, and some make it through to filter. Happy the Betta2 gets most of them!

Things Betta2 collects daily this time of year. The small thing on leaves and large ball are the same thing. I guess wasps lay eggs and the tree takes over. Bunches of wasps hatch in the spring. Hate my neighbors cedar elm (short needles).

Yes, the long wormy things are catkins. My oaks don't have any yet. But it's dropping lots of small balls (like 1/32-1/16 dia), maybe growing in leaves.
My big oak is getting taken down this Friday. The roots are getting too close to the pool and the septic system. Going to miss it, but not going to miss the added headache it causes keeping the pool clean and all the sun it blocks keeping the pool to cool.

How'd you know where the roots are? I bought a house with a pool, but pretty sure they would have cut through roots to put it in. 5 oaks at least 50 years old. They're on common area property, so can't do anything about them.

No matter how many trees I have removed over the years the amount of leaves and debris hasn’t seemed to decrease. In fact there’s more - just different stuff that flies in because the other trees aren’t there anymore. If you chop it they will come!
Don’t tell me that! Lol!

Hoping you experts can help. My Betta1 has been in what I believe is "stranded" mode for about a week. I haven't been able to investigate until today, but here is what I found:
  • Alternating lights flashing blue and red
  • Pushing power button has no effect
  • Cover closed tightly
  • Props move freely
  • Paddlewheel spins freely when basket is removed from unit
  • The red gear (see pic) barely turns at all, which causes the paddlewheel to freeze when the basket is in place.
I am fairly sure the problem is the gear. The gear has a Philipps-head screw holding it in place, but I was nervous to remove it.
Any similar experiences or recommendations on what to do next?

Thanks.

I'd remove the red gear to make sure shaft doesn't have something wound around it. I assume it's charged? Send email to Betta, see what they say.

Well I think it's charged, just based on the fact that the lights are blinking all day. It turned itself off while I had it out of the pool yesterday, and when I put it in the pool turned and turned it on it went forward then backward for a few minutes then went into stranded mode.

Yeah, I took off the red gear and there was nothing wrapped around the shaft. I tried to rotate the shaft with my fingers and nothing. Tried a small vise grip and could get it to spin but it took a lot of force and I didn't want to break the shaft.

Hoping I won't need to send the Betta in AGAIN, since it's out of warranty and I just sent it back two months ago.

I would mention that the time the Betta was in their hands should be deducted from the warranty period. Then maybe they would consider it still under warranty or say that the warranty should reset after repair. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice; i will call tomorrow.
This will actually be the 3rd return. The unit was purchased in July '21, repaired 1st under warranty in March of '22, then repaired out of warranty in October '22. I paid $60 for the October '22 repair since it was out of warranty. So perhaps that repair will have some sort of warranty period. Fingers crossed.

^^I called Betta today, described the issue and the history. The rep (Maria) told me to spray WD40 on the gear and wait five minutes and call back. While I knew this would not work because of how frozen the gear was, I complied.

After that did not work, I called back and Maria said the repair would covered under the warranty from the last repair. She sent me the shipping documents and I will be be sending the Betta pack tomorrow.

I asked what current turnaround repair time was and she said 7-15 business days, 20 days max. This was due to the large number of repairs they currently have.

Note to self and other Betta owners: save your shipping boxes for the all-expense paid trips to Santa Fe Springs, CA.
Darn, I love this product when it works!
