Has anyone replaced just the motor on this variable speed pump? Looking around the web it appears that motor is only sold with the electronic controller for $1100 for Hayward or about $600 for an AO Smith. I would just like to replace the motor and plug the existing controller into it.

Unfortunately, the mount for the control is unique to each branded motor, even if the motor happened to be made by the same manufacturer. A Hayward control will not bolt to a Pentair motor, etc. Variable-speed motors are not like the older single-speed ones, which were pretty generic as long as one purchased the correct horsepower and mounting, i.e. square flange, c-frame-threaded shaft, etc.

Here are all the parts laid out.
I replaced the bearings and seals and reassembled. Running well and quiet plus I saved several hundred bucks.
Good job. That's a Century V-Green 165 motor, ECM16CU, not original to a Hayward pump.
There are three good motor shops that I have used in my area. I called all three last week about doing bearings on a variable-speed motor and they are all charging between $200 and $300 for that job now. That's crazy. I'm going back to doing it myself for customers.
