Hey all!

So it’s been real hot here in Texas lately. I’ve been having to add quite a bit ( or what I think is quite a bit) of liquid chlorine 12.5%. It’s stored in a conditioned space to minimize degradation. Every time I do the oclt it comes back less then 1ppm loss but my fc is just being eaten up like crazy. I just added and I am letting it circulate for 30 mins before retesting to see if I’m close to what I put in the calculator. Also I added MA 6 days ago to lower TA but since then my PH has only risen to 7.4 and won’t budge. Am I doing something wrong?

Those amounts do not seem unusual for a 10k gallon pool. It's normal to lose 3-4ppm per day in a sunny place like texas. 4ppm is 40 ounces of 12.5% chlorine.

I have a 15k gallon pool in AZ and use 60-70 ounces of 10% liquid chlorine per day.

Those amounts do not seem unusual for a 10k gallon pool. It's normal to lose 3-4ppm per day in a sunny place like texas. 4ppm is 40 ounces of 12.5% chlorine.

It’s really weird, after adding 60oz it only rose 3.5 ppm went from 1.5 to 5ppm Fc

Either your pool volume is higher than 10,000 or the chlorine is degraded a bit. 60 ounces of 12.5% in a 10k gallon pool would increase it by 5.9ppm.

I was trying to bring up the ppm to 7 and ended at 5. I just left it. From what I’ve calculated it’s 10k and some change 15x30 with 46” water level

If you're fully sure of your OCLT (I prefer no chlorine loss during dark period) then I would raise CYA to 50-60 to protect your FC better in that beautiful bright sunshine.

It's quite unusual to have 100 TA and pH 7.4 barring other possibilities, but at any rate, pH is fine.

If your pool is getting a lot of use, that also raises daily FC consumption, and is the best reason of all . Hopefully everything fine.

You might want to consider a salt water chlorine generator which is like buying all that liquid ahead of time, but then making FC at home.

My TA started at 300ppm and with y’all’s help I have been able to get it down to 100 with Ph lowering cycles. This pool is brand new and next season I may go with a SWG. Is it true you have to have a certain pool to use a swg?

Not sure what you mean. All properly built pools can use a SWCG. In fact, a pool that uses chlorine (liquid or solid) eventually has nearly as much salt in it as a SWCG pool.

I feel like I’ve heard that swcg with rust out and above ground pool that isn’t resin.
I guess that’s what I was asking

An above ground pool will rust out regardless. Climate has far more impact on longevity of above ground pools than the tiny bit of salt in the water.
