Central Texas DIY 20x44 Vinyl Liner Build Done

They got the two side walls of the hopper done today.

I'm no expert, can you tell me if it's normal to leave rebar in during this stage?? 🤣

They were cutting and running so did not even think of taking anything with them I am sure. HOT and one of them sick from it=getting out of the sun and into the AC. I would NOT be going in there to move anything.

I am glad it is not going to rain. No worries of the bottom getting messed up.

I'm not too worried about the stuff in the bottom. But the one that's concreted in the top of the wall..... That definitely wasn't because they were in a hurry to leave.

The rebar "just" screws out. Interesting technique.

Anyway, didn't get it finished today. Hopefully tomorrow.

Annnnd I think we're going to run out of pool krete. 😭 I had ordered a borderline amount knowing there was some locally he could get. (Sold in increments of ten & I didn't want a dozen bags leftover with no use) But they won't be open until tomorrow.

We ran out of pool krete. And here's where I'm going to need some advice.....

I called a million places and only one pool "renovation" guy would even quote doing the bottom. He had very few reviews but all were stellar and his website looked very professional. He quoted it based on us buying the pool krete and we signed a contract for the price - which was very basic but said labor and materials was included. Changes would be discussed and approved in writing before execution.

First day he tells my husband he'll be there at 9am, doesn't show up until after noon. He texts my husband and says he needs 4 yards of dirt then leaves the house without actually talking to either of us and my husband had dirt on the way (arranged it first then called him). We paid for the dirt and he barely used it (in fact, took dirt out of the pool).

General dealings and have just been bad. Poor communication, slow work, HE didn't line up enough labor to get it done quickly, etc.

So he finds the pool krete locally and sends me a message saying how much it, the additional mixer rental day(s) and freight/gas is going to be.

I responded "So, the contract you had us sign says "materials included". I thought the amount of pool krete would be enough and you didn't advise different. I don't think we should be paying for the mixer rental when you didn't have enough labor confirmed to get it done quicker. We've also paid for dirt that we feel like you should have known was needed when you quoted the job"

His response "I am not paying for any pool krete. you should have researched it better. I will pay for the dirt if you like"

All through the process when I asked questions it was always "That's the way we do it" "I've always done it this way"

I just want the work finished but I don't want to be ripped off. My daughter is basically banking on a pool birthday party in two weeks. But also, 🤬 this guy

What do you all think?

I wish I had a better plan for you. Plan A wants you to pay BIG for their incompetence and Plans B - Y don't answer the phone. Plan Z can't come until 2024.

But Plan A can go have relations alone.

I don't know what to tell you :( How much is left to do? Do you think there is any way you and hubby can do it???

I have a BIG MAD for you!!! and a GURRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I guess you have to weigh it out...............wallet getting lighter but pool done vs waiting and trying to find anyone to finish it.

I bet you could sell any left over bags on facebook market to help with that.

So it's only the steps and one small section of flat left. We could do it - or probably find somebody else for this small amount of flatwork.

If I had to buy more krete because I messed up fine, I can swallow the cost. But he's been so rude and slow and uncommunicative. And to tell me I should have researched better when he keeps touting that he's the professional?!

And my husband straight up told him he was going to finish for what he quoted because he knew the size of the pool and how much we were ordering. He declined so my husband told him his tools would be at the curb and he was not to step foot on our property again.

We gave him a $1500 deposit so now I foresee a fight about the remainder.

THIS ^^^^ is the one that gets to me!!! THAT is one of the reason you hired him. .............gurrrrr

Okay so here is how you do that. Got to use solid math for the rest of the money:
-how much you were quoted to do the job $???
-How much of the work has been done 1/2?, 1/4? divide that with the money quoted and subtract amount and that is how much you still owe him. Do it all pretty on paper and keep a copy of it. Make him sign it with the date and the words "Paid in Full" on it!

Fly me over there and I will take care of him for you LOL

That's exactly what I was thinking (to math it out)

Next time keep the tools and make him buy them back. Possession is 9/10ths of the law, they say. :devilish:

I did hard math on the pool bottom. It's 903 sq ft that needed finished (unless I messed up somewhere). I had 920 sq ft worth of material. I totally understand that use isn't going to be precise but y'all....we still have 200 sq ft to finish.

Some thing has to be off..................Break the pool into sections and redo your measurements. Look at the bags again and make sure there is not a . or such between two numbers. That is WAY off for sure!
Ok! My much smarter than me husband did the math. And I was off. Something about hypotenuses..... :|

His total is 987. So in a perfect world we would have been short by 67 sq ft when it reality we're short by 200.

I really don't think it was that overdug.

Anyway, more material is on order and we've got some regular 'ol concrete guys quoting. One wanted to actually do it today. Shame we don't have the krete. Hopefully it ships quick.

It's real easy to see when you think cubic feet, instead of square feet. Imagine that area over there is one inch deeper, it requires 50% more material than the 2 inch coating you planned. (Insert any combo of maths). All those little pockets add up quick.
