New vinyl line arriving Saturday!

I am happy to announce the new liner for our 14,000 gal pool arrives Saturday. I’ve found posts in the TFP forums where testing my tap water (city water) prior to the fill is a good idea. Any other suggestions are welcomed. (E.T. (left here by previous homeowners) will finally be poolside by a clear pool.

Do you have people to do it, or are you going to DIY ?

Your fill water anywhere in NY is likely favorable for pools. That's always a plus.

A pool company is installing the liner on Saturday. I have 2 glasses of water from the tap set aside to test prior to the fill. I’m excited to see the removal and installation, and curious to read the tap water results. If there are any extra solutions I should have on hand for the fill, please let me know .

Your fill water will have 0 CYA so get enough stabilizer to get to 30. This is the only time you will know for sure you have none. After the winter it will be low, but it could be 10 or 15 and just not showing on the test. Pool math will let you know how much. Walmart / HD / Lowes probably have it in the seasonal aisle with the pool stuffs, if not there pool store will.

Are you good with maintaining the pool or are you learning as you go ? (We'll gladly help)

Abort abort abort !!!!! That's stupid high FC and you risk bleaching your brand new liner.

Use PoolMath and set it up to your specs. 5ppm is good until your CYA has soaked for a while. The FC will drop quick with nothing protecting it, so check every 2 hours.

My brain read that as 5ppm, not 5 gallons. That will raise your FC to almost 40! I hope you didn't already add that much... 1 gallon puts you at about 8

Okay… so here I am this morning… my fC is 11, cc 0.5. I was told to shock the pool with the 5 gal chlorine yesterday, that every new fill needs to be shocked. Thankfully it will be a warm day and the chlorine will lessen.

5 gallons is way too much. We set 40% of the CYA level as the safe and effective target. Use pool math. With no CYA or not all of it yet as it dissolves, use 12 FC as your target. (For the expected 30 CYA)

FC 3.5
CC 0
PH 7.4
TA 200
CYA doesn’t register in test.

I’m searching for the amount of acid I’ll need to lower the TA, but haven’t come across it as of yet.

Yes and no. It clumps at the bottom and no matter how hard you shake the bottle, you can't pour half (?) and see half show up on the test a day later.

Using a full bottle has much better results as you can rinse and swish it all out.

Thanks. I changed my Target PH to 7.0 (it’s currently 7.4). With TA of 200, 80 oz. Of 29% liquid MA is suggested. I can pick that up tomorrow. Thanks.

Many stopped displaying the % on the bottle. (HD/ Lowes / etc). If it says green, eco or low fumes it's half strength (15%)

Just picked up 31.45% Baum (MA). TA was still 200 this morning, so will add the recommended 74 oz.
