I just had my pool installed. The package came with an aqua pure and frog system ( I know I know but didn’t before I found y’all) they left these chemicals, not sure if they are useful. I have the Taylor 2006c kit and have been trying to use it since startup (6/1) here is what I have today after 24 hours of pump run time.

From what I’ve read, muriatic acid to reduce ph and TA then aerate. I shocked to bring fc up and installed the frog chlorine pack. Cya is low so I need to add stabilizer. In what order should I start, the pool doesn’t look terrible by any means. But the kids are eager to swim.

Welcome to TFP! I see no need for those two products. You appear to have a vinyl pool from the info under your avatar, so from here do the following:
1. If someone added stabilizer already, only add 20 ppm worth of granular stabilizer for an initial CYA target of 40 ppm. You can always add more later. If no one added stabilizer, add 40 ppm worth. Use the sock method. If you don't know about it, let us know.
2. Lower the pH to about 7.5 for now with muriatic acid.
3. Are you sure you did the TA correctly? 25 ML water sample, 2 drops of R-0007, 5 drops of (green) R-0008, then mix & add drops of R-0009 until it turned bright Barbie pink? Multiply the number of drops by 10? If these are new bottles, be sure to wipe the new tips a few times with a damp cloth to reduce static electricity that might effect teh size of the drops.

New install, so is the water still clear?

Stabilizer has not been added so I will do that just need to pick some up.
I have read up on the granular utilizing the sock in the skimmer. So I’ll take it up to 40ppm
I’ll pick up some Muriatic acid and drop ph.
I wasn’t sure about TA, when I did it yesterday it was 350 ( if I’m doing it right) I will retest again tomorrow and reply back.

Be sure to get some fc in the water asap -
Liquid chlorine- 3ppm now & then replenish after swimming
Once u get the cya going follow the FC/CYA Levels

I did throw in the frog chlorine pack and shocked with 12.5% hypo

I have read over all the articles, unfortunately I’ve already paid for all these chemicals before I found TFP . The torpedo pack, from what I’ve read is chlorine tablets that slowly get metered in the pool. Next pool season will be vastly different. Just trying to go through what I have and get it balanced so the kids can swim.
Yes. I sourced a 5 gallon drum of 12.5% hypochlorite. It was free.99 and it’s being kept in a dark place so hopefully will last. It was from a buddy that works at a chemical distributor.
I’ve added muriatic acid to lower the PH and hopefully lower TA. I ran another test and TA is at 300ppm. Also added 2lbs of stabilizer utilizing the sock method in the skimmer because it’s still sub 20. Will retest again tomorrow and see if they balance out.

I’m amazed with the TFPC! My Ph was spot on. Ta dropped from 300 to 260, I added the recommended amount of muriatic acid to drop to 7.2… now my question is do I start to aerate now? Or give it some time to start to raise Ph? At the levels that I’m at is it safe for the kids to swim? I’m going to take FC up but didn’t want to drop chemicals on top of each other. I’ve added the remaining required stabilizer to take cya to 40ppm. Do I need to worry about CH that it’s at 600 with the pool I have? Sorry for all the questions.
What do y’all think?

Up to you. With a TA that high the pH may fly-up quickly on its own anyways. No need to obsess about the TA. As you treat the pH each time it will fall. Your #1 focus needs to be on maintaining the proper FC level per the FC/CYA Levels. If you allow the FC to fall (like it is now), you run the risk of algae and that's never fun.

Your CH shot-up like a rocket. Is that water from a well, or have you been dumping cal-hypo shock bags in there? Also, never add chemicals on top of each other. Most important is not to add muriatic acid and chlorine at the exact same time on the exact same place. Separate by a few minutes and you are fine. Use liquid chlorine to maintain your FC level. You need some now. Right away. I'd get the FC up to at least 5 ppm, maybe even 7 to prevent algae.

The original water comes from a community well but I haven’t added since original fill, it has rained a few times, no shock bags, only shock I’ve used is 12.5% liquid chlorine. Let me retest CH now that I look at it I’m pretty sure I didn’t put 60 drops in. I think that should be 160 but I’ll redo it. And I’m heading out now to raise FC.

So just take a sample from the garden hose and test, correct? How can the acid additions be calculated?

By using the PoolMath APP. Go to "Effects of Adding" by entering the required data for that chemicals (muriatic acid) and it will tell you what you can expect.

Kids want to swim right now as we speak, fc is at the minimum, so I will raise after they swim, ch is definitely right this time, so after they swim today I’ll probably take Ph down to 7.0 and then shock to bring up the fc. Anything else the gurus see?

Also can I start to run the pump for only 12 hours instead of 24 or should I keep running 24hours?

You can swim with FC levels up to slam levels with no problem. Also the Ph anything between 7-8 is fine. I would add the FC before the kids swim and after the swim also.

I’m sorry, I’m still learning the lingo, I’m using 12.5% liquid chlorine to raise FC… but I can utilize the same to (shock) which is SLAM correct?
