Jandy Lxi 400 - Fault - Check IGN Control - single flash light on FENWAL

hi everyone,

I am trying to troubleshoot an issue with my Jandy lxi 400 heater (it is 6 years old and suddenly stopped working. ) when heater is turned on, the FENWAL shows a single flash light which indicates an air flow fault. After the unit shuts down after seems like 3 cycles, the display indicates Fault- Check IGN Control. I checked the obvious signs like blockage (inlet and outlet) of the airflow switch and cleaned all contacts. I have replaced the FENWAL unit, Flame sensor but it didn't fix the issue.

I can feel the airflow in the discharge but not sure if it is sufficient flow or not. I don't hear any clicking noise like when the ignitor is turned on and I don't smell any gas.

Could ignitor be the problem here? or the airflow switch? I am thinking of replacing both and test it out again. I had a pool service guy here and he recommended to replace the heater and quoted me for $3900....

I lose an ignitor every 2-3 years that's the first thing I'd check.

An ignitor does not fix an air flow fault.

Confirm that the blower fan starts running.

Check the tube that runs to the air flow switch.

Check the air flow switch using a multimeter that its contacts close.

Check that rodents did not build nests in or around the fan.

Blower fan starts immediately after heater is turned on and I can feel air coming out of the vents from the top of the unit.

I removed the tubes and checked to make sure they are not clogged.

The unit is clean and free from any nests. Haven't checked inside the fan... not sure how to check it though.

To check the air flow switch, should I check the voltage once unit is running?

Jandy heaters can throw weird errors when the ignitor is out. That's still the first thing I'd replace.

Check if you have a closed circuit on the AFS when you blow gently into the tube.

I took the 2 tubes off the AFS and blow right through them and tubes are wide open..

Did you check with your multimeter that blowing into the AFS closes the switch?

no I didn't. how do I do this test? Should the heater be turned on? what settings should I have the multimeter set to?

Heater is off.

Multimeter is in continuity or ohms setting.

Post a pic of your multimeter.

So I Tested the AFS for continuity and it seems like I have a closed circuit when I either blow through the pressure tube and suck on the vacuum tube. The meter beeps and throws a number and I also hear a click. I also tested the Ignitor for continuity and it is also showing it has continuity. at this point I am not sure what else to test. Picture 12.jpg is when I am not blowing into the tube so nothing shows up on the meter.

AFS test good., So reassemble everything and see if it still errors.

Reassembled everything and also cleaned the connections from AFS to the Fenwal. I checked the air inlet to make sure there is nothing blocking the air intake (picture 15.jpg)..... and it looked clean.

Unfortunately, same behavior as I initially reported after everything were back in place. Blower turns on, runs for few seconds and single LED light start to blink on the Fenwal every few seconds..... no other sounds/clicks while blower is on. after few minutes, blower stops the control panel shows, Fault- Check IGN Control and then the 2nd cycle starts with the same symptoms.

You still think there is a problem with the ignitor, even though the continuity test reviled it is working properly? I can get a new ignitor from Amazon and try it out and if it won't fix my issue, I can always return it... it worth a shot. Thanks,

Yep try and see and if not just keep it in your toolbox. I had 3 spares at the time.
