Ready to start TFP

Use your K2006C test kit and post all the results from it. We do not provide guidance based on pool store tests.
I think I’m getting some numbers. I recall the previous pool co say the only test he would trust from Leslie’s is CYA. I’m getting a reading >30 I think on my test. I can still see the dot

Here are my readings:
5.5 FC
7.9pH
TA 120
CH 480
CYA >30
Water temp 60

I see in the pool math calculator I need to add 15oz more acid. We have the 31.45 here

We have not used any pucks since our replaster. Any feedback for the CYA?

Pool stores rarely get CYA testing correct.

If you can see the dot to the 30 line, then the CYA is under 30. If so, add 10 ppm CYA worth of granular stabilizer via the sock method. Once dissolved from the sock, check the CYA again in a couple days.

I love this explanation...

3ppm is a cliff, you NEVER want to drive off a cliff.. stay away from the cliff by staying above 4FC at all times, add chlorine till you have 6 FC then test about the same time the next day, if you are at 4ppm your good > add chlorine to get back to 6FC.. if you are below 4ppm you may need to target 7fc.. After a week or so you will be a master at this.. :)

I sure appreciate this explanation and very timely. I just tested and we are at 3.5. I added enough to get to 6ppm per the pool math app which was 59oz. We got a 3 jug box at Costco and will be looking around soon to compare prices. I also need to add some cya so that’s my next step!

Check that bleach - to my understanding Costco only sells Clorox with Cloromax -- do not use that in your pool.
Ok. Yikes. I see that on there. It’s already in. Did we screw up already??

You're probably OK. Most pools can handle some before it becomes too much and foams up or goes cloudy. If it's still good tomorrow, it will likely stay that way.

Great! I’m so glad I mentioned bleach brand and y’all helped us out. I will get regular at Home Depot today. I also need to find cya there. Next up is to read up on how to manage the daily chlorine add when out of town. Already looking at adding a SWG.

Here is another question…since cya is low is it harmful to use pucks for a few weeks to raise it? We have several weeks this summer where we will be out of town so believe we will need a small bucket anyway? Thoughts on pucks to raise cya instead of adding? Reading about adding it makes me think it’s not an easy process with the dissolving.

If you know where you are, and where you want to be, tabs are fine. Just realize they take a while. If your CYA is really low at the beginning of the season, you may not want to wait a few weeks for the tabs to raise it 2(?) each.

They are great for vacations if you had some CYA wiggle room.

Also wanted to go over date codes on bleach. It will have a long # somewhere like this, possibly without spaces. HDX_Chlorine_Date_Code.jpg

It's 2021, day 027. (Today is day 074 so it would say 22074XXXXXXXX). You want as fresh as possible. Many times the dates are as all over the place as yogurts in the grocery store.
