Captain’s Log :
Ice accumulation on trees overnight w/ heavy rainfall.
Lots of branches/trees dropping.
Power is out in pretty much the while west half of the county.
Large Transformer nearby exploded & arced a while.
Precipitation continues.
More ice predicted through tomorrow.
Cooked lunch in the fireplace 🔥
Current temp 31F & dropping.
This feels very Ice Storm of 1994 esque when we had no power for 2+ weeks & had to live in our den.
Hope everyone is staying safe!
Conserving battery 🔋 now so see y’all on the flip side!

Brrrrr… but a non-issue, so far. 🤞 It’s been in the 20s all day and expected to drop to mid-teens tonight. That will be the real test, but not the first time we’ve hit the teens this winter.

Dang, that is a good amount of ice accumulation in your pool. Is your pump running? My patio looks like yours, but no ice within the pool.

I don't mind winter weather (as long as it's SHORT!) but ice...ugh. The storm we had in 2020 had us without power for a little over a week and the loss of 30+ trees. And spend WAY TOO much money cleaning up the mess. My thoughts are with you!

Once it starts snowing, it accumulates on the cover - at least the part that remains suspended above the water. Pump is definitely running!

I have 2 pieces of styrofoam floating in the middle to help with the cover suspension and tension. Snow results in an interesting sculpture.

Got it. I had to go check mine for icebergs before posting. Glad to know all is well.

Update 🔔
🔌 Power is restored for now!
- luckily i’m near one of the only gas stations in our area so they usually get on it pretty quick if the store is out too.
Precipitation has slowed but wind is picking up . Limbs & trees steadily dropping. 😳
Time to recharge everything, cook some supper & get ready for round 2 headed this way. Hubby was able to procure a generator/welder so if it goes out again we’ll be able to keep everything charged up, run the blower on the fireplace, & some Christmas lights.
On another note.. frozen magna latch strikes again so i am unable to go on the pool deck & try the cover pump for the remaining water on the cover while temp is still just below freezing 😩 I really wanna get in the hot tub but practical me knows it will reduce the temp & I would feel bad taking everything off the generator later to keep it from freezing 🥶 decisions…. Decisions……

My thoughts are with you. My daughter lives near Austin and they got snow/ice. The city has shut down and her husband got stuck in CA (all flights to Austin cancelled). It's too treacherous to drive, since they have no salt trucks. Should be ok as long as the grid holds, but I think some are without power.
With climate change, I think the lower states will have to figure out how to deal with these storms.

Our roads are not too terrible except the fallen trees/limbs.
Overnight we didn’t get much more precipitation as predicted- just colder temps.
Today only a little flurry so we just have to hold out until the ice accumulation melts in a day or so. I feel like we dodged a bullet here & am so thankful our power is still on.

Had an inch or two of ice last night followed by about 6 inches of snow overnight. We kept power but there’s little to no chance we’re gonna do much that involves leaving the house. Means we’ve gotta actually cook lunch unlike our normal Friday where sherry and I get lunch out without the kids. 😂

& just like that the thaw is upon us.
Its like diamonds 💎 falling from the trees & littering the yard. You know what they say about the mid-south.. if u don’t like the weather, don’t worry, it will change in a few hours 🤣

Well, I am happy to report that our winter "storm" came and went without much fanfare. A few days of pretty cold air and about 8" of snow, but it's back to the low 50s and most of the snow is gone. Temps should be back in the 60s in a few days. I think I might "hot tub" the pool this Friday to celebrate. ;)
