Based on pool math I'll add 85oz of bleach/chlorine in front of the returns now. I assume the pump should be running on filter..
Okay thanks. Done. I'll let it run for 30 minutes and test again? Also my Taylor K-2006C didn't come with the reagents 0001 & 0002 to test chlorine.. not sure if that's right? Luckily I have the cheap 5 way test kit so I used it to test the chlorine
You shouldn’t have R-0001 or R-0002. You should have powder R-0870, liquid R-0871 and liquid R-0003. If you have instructions referencing R-0001 and R-0002, your K-2006 may have had the wrong instructions included. Refer to the following link:

The K-2006C has directions for both methods, both only includes the FAS-DPD chemicals.
Am I reading pool math correctly that I am supposed to get to a FC of 14 to reach SLAM levels? After adding the suggested first round of bleach (85 oz) I'm only at a 2 FC and I ran the pump and filter for 30 minutes.

Okay I'm at 7.2 FC using the Taylor K-2006C which says only 41 oz of bleach. I'll add and test one last time in 30 minutes then again in the morning
IF you have not turned off FP and then started using the SWG now might be a good time. This way you can save some of that bleach or return any unopened bottles you may have.

I haven't turned off FP and have been running on FP and then retesting. This morning I added the recommended amount of bleach (40 FL oz) based on pool math to get to SLAM levels & have set the pump/filter to run for 4 hours and plan test again afterwards. I was under the impression that I should get to SLAM levels of chlorine before turning on the SWG?

That's what I was thinking. I haven't reached the shock level of chlorine yet so I'm going to wait until I do and slowly keep adding bleach/chlorine day by day until I do

No problem I appreciate all the help here. I am concerned about getting to this 14 number of FC for the SLAM levels. Is that right? Seems high and I don't want to mess up and add too much bleach
14 might seem high but it's not for what you are doing. You are in good hands here trust the information you are getting, follow the instructions and you will have a clear pool. What day did you start the slam? How often are you checking the FC and adding chlorine? Is the pump running 24 hours?
You said your CYA is 30-35. Is it 30 or higher? If higher, round up to the nearest multiple of 10 (40), which gives you a SLAM level of 16. The CYA tube is a logarithmic scale, so unless you are good at estimating values on a lograrithmic scale (most people are not), it's best to just round up to the next multiple of 10.
While you don't want to completely overshoot and go to 25, don't add chlorine slowly. Get it added, get up to SLAM levels. Add what PoolMath says to get it to SLAM level, let it circulate for 30 minutes, re-test and add again if needed.

Run pump 24/7. Do not turn off until SLAM is complete.
SLAM= Shock Level and Maintain.
Shock Level means= get it to 16 right away (with a CYA of 40.)
Maintain means= hold the Shock level at 16, do not let it go below 16. It will go down because you are killing algae. Get it back up to 16. Retest repeatedly to keep shock level at 16.
When FC holds at 16 and you're not loosing FC, then you can consider the next step.
You are only done with the SLAM when your water is clear, and you pass the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test.
You're SLAM is not yet complete.

Okay I just added more chlorine using a CYA of 30 and it said to get it to a FC level of 12 I was playing it safe. The water is clear and I did a first round of vacuuming. The pump is running for an hour now..
When that is done I'll retest and get it to a FC level of 14-16 using pool math, maintain it there and then go from there. Thanks everyone

It shouldn't be a very long process, since you changed the water.
Also you can swim in a pool at SLAM levels so long as it's clear, so don't let this stop you from enjoying the pool.
