Still didn't open this season yet...somehow just don't have the enthusiasm to do it....anybody else (in the 60+ age group) feel the same way??

Ain't messin' with noone...just saying that the first part of last season was where all the work was. Once the weird mix of chemicals that created the fumes, etc. subsided, the remainder of the season was among one of the easiest I've had in many years. All this has been a trial-and-error situation ever since BioGuard discontinued the product called "Assist", which was pretty much the gold standard for treating any presence of white water mold and/or pink slime. So the past few seasons have seen me go through several different products and approaches in an attempt to find something to replace that. The Line Clean MAY be that product - and one that's possibly even more effective since it appears it can be used as a maintenance dose despite no actual indication as such on the label. Will it work as hoped for? Who knows. I have a feeling it will. But, if it doesn't, the alternative is then to go back to chlorine. Pretty simple, really. I'm not aware of any other products out there. All of you folks say TFP works so well, so, that would be the next step. I don't like the idea of using chlorine - never have - but...really no other choice it would seem.
I grew up with a Baquacil pool. Now I maintain a chlorine one. My mom (in charge of the Baqua pool) haaaaaaates bleach, won't use it, it causes migraines for her. She's been in my pool several times without issue. The chlorine just isn't detectable.
My kids were swimming a couple weeks ago. Water was 80. I can only hope that winter covers block enough light to minimize algae for those still winterized at this point.
I just think, we already had several pool days. That's enjoyment we had, value we got from the pool, that we would have missed out on if the pool was winterized still. In exchange for what, a couple weeks of testing and maybe a gallon of chlorine? Worth it.
I don’t get it. For years I watched friends, and many of them, wait for Memorial Day with no good answer to why. It was purely a mental thing that the summer couldn’t start before then bur that mentality runs rampant by me. So they’d wait every year and be rewarded with a swamp. *then* loose a precious 3 weeks clearing but not clearing it the Leslies way with a couple more replays during the short summer. *then* close Labor Day whether it was still 90 or 50. Because they ‘had to’.

....... no more noxious fumes that make you pass out if you’re anywhere near the pool when it’s funky. I can’t wrap my head around *that* one. I’d quit right then and there
I've opened two weeks before Memorial Day for as long as I can remember, but for 10 years with the pool at my old home the water temperature had a hard time reaching 70. It didn't stop me from going in. It's just the reality of the situation.
For the last 4 seasons the water was at 80 and swimmable within a week and ready for that first warm day.
A method to warm the water plays a lot into when to open.

I just really REALLY hated looking at the green trampoline out back. Even if we had no desire to use it, the water was much prettier. Lol
I probably would....if we'd be home. Typically travel during the early spring - so the weeks before Memorial Day would very seldom work for us. Same with leaving the pool open into October - I would - but, again, often not around to do it. Last year we were since trips were canceled due to covid.
That, I expect, was a totally unique and hopefully isolated occurrence - brought on by my overzeaolusness in adding way too much stuff at once. Nothing like that has ever happened before last season. It was...a learning experience....but I wouldn't call it a deterrent. I know you would have drained the pool at that point, but I just didn't feel in a position to do that. It would have rendered pointless the idea of using Line Cleaner as being a potentially viable solution. The only way was to forge on through the fume/strong odor period (7/13 to 8/7) and then see where it went for the rest of the season. Water never seemed cleaner then it did from August 8 to the end. I'm intrigued to continue this periodical non-chlorine shock treatment experiment. Line Clean can go in tomorrow. I very honestly don't anticipate any problems this season. Just a gut feeling.

If you’re ever in Wisconsin, you have an open invite to come experience it at our pool! Last year was our first with a pool but we never smelled chlorine in it. Not once. Not a single time. We had guests who asked if there was chlorine in the pool because they couldn’t smell it. There was chlorine in the pool of course. It’s just not detectable, except with a chlorine test, when maintained per the TFPC method.
FC doesn't really smell. The odor comes from the CC, which is basically the FC doing it's job.
lol....yeah, you're right....but the 'things to try' list has now reached the last possible attempt. Seriously. There's nothing else out there short of some completely alternate (non-chemical) approach.
Please don't take this as a judgement by any means, but you had a fume/strong odor period during the hottest 3 weeks of the summer during a Pandemic?
Almost a weird sort of irony to it, ya know? A (major) extreme event simultaneously with a (relatively minor) extreme and event. Both were unprecedented...the former in terms of my entire life, the latter in terms of the length of time I've had the pool.
