Hello All,
Today marks the first day my pool has been open since I’ve found this wonderful resource. Here are my first set of test results:
FC: 9.5
CC: 0
Ph: 7.8
TA: 100
CH: 130
CYA: 50
Salt: 2600
Temp: 54*
I’m thinking the first thing I need to do is get the salt up as I have a SWG and I know it has to be off for 24hrs after adding salt. Is that the first thing you would do?

The company that opened the pool dumped 4lbs of an unknown shock in and placed 2 unknown chlorine tabs into the skimmer basket.

I took the chlorine tabs out and am debating putting them back into the skimmer basket. It seems like I could use some more CYA and these would hold my chlorine up while I’m waiting for the salinity can rise so I can fire up the SWG. What would you all do?

Should I be concerned at this point with the TA? What about the pH?

Thanks all!

It does not have to be the first thing but you need to add salt.

You have a K-1766 Salt Test Kit?

Add enough salt to get you to 2800-3,000 ppm then let it circulate for 24 -48 hours and test the salt level. Then add mode salt in increments to get to your desired level. You don;t want to overshoot and get a high salt condition.

You never want the tabs in the skimmer basket. The tablets have acid and your skimmer water will become very acidic when your pump is off and then run the acidic water through your equipment.

If you want to use the tablets then get a floater to put them in.

Or get dry stabilizer and liquid chlorine and don't fool with the tablets.

When your pH gets to 8 lower it to 7.2 -7.4. Do that a few times and it will lower your TA.

I don't believe your salt cell will work until the water rises anyways. I use bleach in the spring and fall and water temp it too low. If you have kids I recommend waiting until the water is warmer before adding salt. My kids love to play with it before it dissolves,
